SP had asked me to share some insight/info on both the new end panels and molles. Super happy to share my experience as this is a great thread/community and I think there's a ton of value in seeing what people are doing for both inspo or optimization. So far I'm at about 60 nights in this camper. I don't intend for this post to be a sales pitch at all, but more to bring awareness to people that these items exist and can make your experience a bit better if you'd like.

I finally got some time off from camping to clean up the back and get some decent photos showing how I've got everything installed. The two things to note is that both the tent end panels and wall molle's are available from SP either as an add-on or a retrofit to current campers. The pricing is current $369.95 for the tent end panels and $169.95 for the wall mounted molle panels.

So far I've been super happy with both items. The tent end panels give some much-needed venting to the tent when closing and have really eased packing up. I've also found that they're great for when I get home if it's been damp/rainy as they allow for airflow into the upper part of the camper for drying out. I only have a small bit of garage clearance, so I prop the end of the tent up with a piece of wood and run a fan and small dehumidifier. Since doing this I've not noticed any funky smells or additional moisture after about half a day or so. Side note: I'm still using one of the old end panels that I've converted into a table top (see photos) in partnership with a Lagun table arm.

The wall molles are pretty self-explanatory, but do add a ton of storage and functionality to the unit. I've currently got my propane carrier and fire extinguisher mounted to one and some quick grab/frequently used items on the other (jetboil+aeroproess, IsoPro fuel, first aid, hats, etc). Worth noting that the holes didn't line up perfectly for the propane mount, but it was super easy to drill a few additional ones to get it bolted in.

I've been running the new style panels since pickup and even though I dont have anything to compare to, I can say they are very convenient and multipurpose for sure. I use both the molle tent floor panels and the molle side panels for misc. gear.

Yup. See the photo where there’s a molle panel in the “ceiling”. These now come from the factory but the earlier models had solid panels.

Anyone have a wind fairing/deflector installed? I was trying to figure out a way of making it attach to the tent rails instead of a roof rack, but seems like a roof rack mounted right in front of the tent and then a fairing on the roof rack is the way to go. I don’t really want to drill holes in my truck to mount a roof rack and I know there are no drill racks, just seeing if anyones done it.

I do not have a picture yet, but we are working on designing a top notch wind fairing. A company local to my area is a manufacture and works with plastics. This fairing will pair perfectly into the t slot rails and match the aesthetics the X1 style.

This journey started when I noticed the drop in MPG by about 1-1.5 but also the on the freeway my truck wont stay in 8th gear, keeps dropping into 7th adding to the MPG problem. I picked up #197 few weeks back and have been super stoked with it! Only a few nights in so far and just a few mods done, such as hooking up rear light and powering the USBs.

When the first test fit is complete I'll reply back here. These guys that are helping design it in CAD and looks pretty sharp so far. I have been encouraging them to sell these into the market place.

I was serious a few posts back when I spoke of incorporating a rain gutter into the design. I suspect you haven’t had your new SP in any rain. Both the roof and the t slots channel the rain to the front corners where it drops a rather large spout directly into the doors and windows. A wind faring that attaches to the t slots could easily incorporate a lip or gunnel that draws the water away from the sides toward the center of the roof where it won’t do as much harm. Trust me newbie this is a recurring complaint during the rainy season.

Yes, I have seen this 3 different times now. I park outside and it has rained a few times. It holds a lot of water and we watch it drain out as I move the truck forward before my wife gets in so she doesn't get soaked. It did not even incur to me to that I can hit 2 birds with one stone on this. We have already changed the design 3-4 times, from material choices, to how it looks and how strong I want it to be. The first idea was going to be way over engineered and cost to much. Trying to get my return on investment around 5k miles from saving .5-1 mpg (only 3-5 cents a mile savings depending on gas prices)

I will look into this and see if some sort of defector can be incorporated, already have ideas as I write this. Here is one idea I will play around with, maybe fill all the rails with something from here. https://www.mcmaster.com/t-slots/t-slotted-framing-caps-covers-and-seals/

On a side note, I saw you drive through nor cal about a year ago and saw your camper and that is how I learned about SP. You were parked at one of those park and rides.

That's interesting. Might have been when I was driving back to so cal after picking up my SP. I think I was in a park and ride checking maps to get through the Bay Area after visiting friends in Pt. Reyes. Glad to be of service.

As to the "rain gutter" I don't think plugging the t slots will help. May be wrong. I think rain is collecting from the roof and the slots and then "escaping" from the opening at the end of the t slot, if that makes sense. I think a small, simple interior channel under the end of the slots, maybe about the size of the slots, will divert enough water away from the edge. Doesn't have to divert to the center as I previously said. Just has to dump onto the roof away from the edge so the runoff will then channel via the truck's own rain gutters.

I'm not that handy with sketchup but I'll try to draw an example of what I mean. Course I'm not doing the dev work so it's no cost to me to add to your design lol.

Speaking of gutters.... I was working on a couple prototypes for this before my recent Arizona trip.

Painted it just before leaving, then installed today before taking the truck to a car wash, which would be a good time to test for drippage.

Prototype fit in place. Did a bit of trimming after this. The protruding end cap made measuring/design a bit more complicated. The gutter is angled down a bit toward the inside and front.

    Final cut before paint

Installed and tested. Just one little drip remains as the side contacts the bottom of the extrusion. It's not bad, not sure I'll try and fix that. The drips are now directed to the front corner over the cab.

Comparison to the other side... continual heavy dripping off the end of the extrusion. I'll be making a gutter for this side too, though it will need to be modified due to the cable run.

How about something like this? Wind faring/rain gutter one-two punch.
