Rear driveshaft won’t bolt up

I just got 5.29’s installed and when I went to bolt up the driveshaft to the rear differential, this is as far as the driveshaft flange will go before the four bolts starts to get very tight. Before i put the nuts on I tried to push the yoke flange by hand toward the pinion but it seems the pinion nut is too big? When I move the driveshaft flange around to see if it’ll seat inside the pinion i can feel the pinion nut. I don’t know if that makes sense.
I don’t think you’re supposed to force/hammer the rest in are you? I made sure that the driveshaft yoke went in the way it came out as well
?? Anybody had this issue before?

Some of those 17 year old commandos helped answer a few questions last week about my gears, figured I’d give it another shot.

 

Be careful of the simple fix by adding spacers (like a couple of washers) and longer bolts! Sound simple and functional but could be a nightmare to balance?? IDK. Asking a pro is great advice.

If he says to obtain a slimmer thickness pinon nut, be sure of the length of threads on the pinon shaft. They may still hit.
A replaceable u-joint yoke looks to be the best solution, if available.

Let's see what your pinion nut. Only reason shaft flange would do that would be pinion nut is in the way. Only reason why pinion nut would be in the way is because whoever set the gears up didn't crush the pinion sleeve. If they didn't do that properly, then you've got even bigger problems and you're lucky this happened. I can help, I just need info.

 

Ok that’s what I was assuming, that the pinion nut was in the way. We used a solid pinion spacer over a crush sleeve. If the solid pinion spacer wasn’t properly shimmed or crush sleeve wasn’t properly crushed, would I notice anything from just spinning the tires? Would it make noise, etc? Everything feels very tight.

 

Was this your original flange? Did you do a complete third member with an exchange? There are a variety of bolt pattern dimensions. It may be that the bole patterns don't match. Have you tried to rotate it a quarter turn?

 

Yes this was my original flange and the third member is from the truck as well

 

That pinion nut looks seated all the way. Pinion flange looks beat up. Seems like you just need to line up the inset on the shaft to the pinion flange a little better.

Maybe rotate it, was the flange and DS marked before it was disassembled?
