Has anyone out there with a canopy or shell attempted to power a rear facing dashcam straight out of the 120V bed outlet on a third gen? I'd like to try it this way because, well, I am lazy and it seems easier than hard wiring it to the canopy lighting.

Would it really just be as simple as using a 10W/5V/2amp USB plug or am I way overthinking/underthinking this?

It would work with adapter you mentioned, but why waste all that power? Converting DC to AC then back to DC wastes a lot of power, even if you’re only pulling an Amp. You’ll probably find something in the trailer plug more useful, assume you have tow package.
