I have a 2008 DCSB offroad 4x4. I have been hearing a periodic whining from the drivers side. It will sometimes start as I sit at a stoplight and I can hear it start up as I am driving down the road. Any suggestions what might be the cause. Heater/AC fan is off

Do you have the radio on? Does it sound like it’s coming from the speaker next to you? Could be a ground issue.

Radio was off. The bed outlet doesn't work due to the previous owner installing a remote start. The Toyota tech said something about a grey wire spliced in(I thought it was the switch). I think I will have my mechanic remove the remote start.

Is there a way I could check that out? Thanks for the help.

Check your power steering fluid level, beyond that it's anyone's guess without hearing it.
Most likely it would be low power steering fluid or something on the belt drive (idler/tensioner pulley, alternator, water pump, etc) but ultimately you will have to pinpoint the source or take it to someone who can.
A mechanics stethoscope, sawed off broom handle or long screwdriver can help pinpoint noises just be careful poking around moving parts.

Yeah I don't want a broom handle rammed in my ear. I don't hear it in the engine compartment as much as in the cab. Thanks alot for the input.

@cloudbnd In the cab, but not out? Could be the same sound I’m hearing from my fan motor. When cold especially, it’s a whining noise coming from there. Does it go away shutting the fan off?

I have the fan off and radio off. Sounds like a faint crotch rocket in first gear

If it increases with the trans, I’d say ground loop.

This is exactly why I asked about the radio. Certainly can be present without it, but often noticeable through the speakers too (at least the ones I've seen).
