Ah I thought you were spraying the axle with a sprayer in previous posts. Yeah see what a paint store says but 2k clear comes in $25-$30 cans and I think that would take one or 1.5 at most - unfortunately you won’t be able to store any unused.

I used chassis saver on the axle. Its too thick for an engine bay. Everytime I spray clear in a can it bubbles. You have used 2k eastwood before?

No the auto paint store gave me what I think is the same as these

    https://www.amazon.com/Spray-High-Gloss-Clearcoat-Aerosol/dp/B00W2D806Y?crid=83UGS31XK0Q6&keywords=2k+clear+coat&qid=1647813201&sprefix=2k+clearcoat%2Caps%2C491&sr=8-2

Never used any Eastwood paints. Still, going to a auto paint place is a good idea to hopefully get some real good idea of what's compatible with the stuff you primed with, etc. Some base coats will make the 2k peel if they're not made to be used with it - most automotive paints won't, but rusto etc. can. I had rusto bedliner make the 2k peel after making a sweet 2 color hood to cut down on glare and threw it away I was so over it haha.

Luckily I did the same thing (rusto) in my engine bay with the same color as factory (black) so where it's peeled it doesn't look super ghetto, but with another color it'll obviously show through.

I went with this stuff. Went to this awesome paint shop I didn’t even know existed. They told me it was just as strong as factory clear.

Had to put another coat of primer so won’t know how it goes for a few days.

What are you using for color / base coat? You’ve got to make sure that your primer and base won’t be off-gassing while your clear is applied.

Did they say the clear would be compatible with the primer, too? Just trigger shy after seeing all my hard work and money wasted after my painted hood fail. I remember I used a 2k primer and a 1k color / base which did fine with the 2k clear, but it was the rusto bedliner in the middle section of the hood which I wanted to clear like a poor man’s line-x and after giving it 3-4 weeks of hot dry SoCal summer it was still off-gassing and peeled the clear only on top of it.

Got the coupler today. Marlin left, Trail gear right. The pic is deceptive. They are about the same height but exact same width. The trail gear one slid on trans shaft like it was too big. The Marlin I had to beat on with a mallet and hammer to get it all the way down.

This lift is so handy. Have used it for every aspect of this project and it came through again today.

Got all the oil pan crap finally! Went with a 2wd t-100 pan but I’m seeing why people use both 2wd and 4wd. The 2wd has more front to back clearance, but it is def lower to the ground by at least 1/2-3/4" than the 4wd. Im prob gonna have to cut it down in the front a little and modify it to clear the track but I already planned for this in my head and the 2wd has an easier structure to change than the 4wd. Here are the part numbers I went with. Ill update on whether they all work. lol

Part Number Part Name Price Quantity Total
    12101-65030 Pan Sub-Assembly, Oil $157.47
15104-62060 Engine Oil Pump Pickup Tube $66.64
15147-62020 Engine Oil Pump Pickup Tube Gasket $3.05
    15301-62060 Gauge Sub-Assembly, Oil Level $17.13
11452-62060 Guide, Oil Level Gauge $24.31
    90405-10033 Union $7.56
96721-19010 Engine Oil Dipstick Tube Seal $2.10
    Subtotal: $278.26
Estimated Shipping to 07866 via Expedited Shipping: $27.47
    Tax: $10.13
    Total: $315.86

I had to do the same shit with my 26spline marlin coupler on my w59 4cyl trans output. 5lb sledge.
I hope I never have to take that thing back off....

Yeah, that thing is super tight! Ill take tight over loose any day though!! Trail gear coupler was like a used up 50 yr old hooker compared to the MC.

Yes, that's what I was thinking - former student of mine picked up a HF Purple sprayer and began spraying his and his friends' engine bays, body panels, even paid him to spray my fiberglass - totally worth it.

Yep, the guy at the paint shop said he knows guys that have been using those things for years so Im gonna give it a shot. Its just an engine bay. Prob do the valve covers to match as well. Found a sweet color I think. Hopefully I will stick with it for the body which I 100% for sure will not be doing myself! Picking colors is hard man.
