New truck and first time “new personal” vehicle owner here - I noticed a ring of what appears to be rust under my 2022 Tacoma near the driver and passenger side front shocks. Noticed this right after I brought the truck home so didn’t ask at the dealership and wasn’t extremely concerned.

I’m not sure if this is even anything to worry about, but assume it’s better to ask about it than to just ignore it. I was planning on talking to the service guys when I go back to get the wheel locks added… but hoping to collect an opinion or two prior to that. Thanks in advance.

Bare cast pieces. You look around under your truck and you’ll find a few more items with same surface rust.

Relax man. Many exposed car parts are prone to surface rust and it's perfectly normal. What many don't realize is that surface rust is actually a good thing in this situation. The rust forms a protective oxide layer that actually protects the part from oxidizing further. All good man, enjoy your new truck!

    Normal

Modern lubricants and clean running engines make these newer vehicles capable of several hundred thousand miles with good care -- wearing out isn't much of an issue anymore, the arch enemy is now rust. The old "ounce of prevention" thing applies here.

You spent a pile of money on your new truck, protect your investment by spending a bit more and an afternoon and give it a good coating of Cosmoline.

See if you can find any new car of any brand on a dealer lot that does not have something like this somewhere.

    Welcome
