Why isn't this more popular?

Might be better than cutting an axle dump etc.

 

Not legal in some states. Plus. Ouch. Cutting the bedside. Rust up here. I considered it on the tundra. But eh. I’m going to dump after axle if I can. If not dual pipes out just under the bedside

Personally, I think it is ugly. Potential to melt the plastic fender flare, the soot buildup that use to occur on the bottom of the bedside would now be on the side of the bedside.
But, you do you.

 

Way too much work vs an axle chop, alters bodywork, probable heat/contamination damage to paint.

 

Less room for a muffler. Have you heard these trucks? Fuck that lol.

I have TRD catback which was great on city streets, but annoying drone coasting on the highway, so I had an exhaust shop put on a

$124 Vibrant 1141 2.5' Ultra Quiet Resonator, Silver

Vibrant 1141 resonator for $60 labor. Did a good job welding it on.
Took care of the highway drone. A little more mild for city but worth the sacrifice.

And the exhaust is big. Including the resonator. I don't think there would be as much room for all that stuff if going side exit

Good point. Probably harder and more costly than axle chop. Will probably go that route instead at some point. Not sure if I should take it to a shop,
or simply get under the truck and eyeball where a good spot is to cut it with a tool myself.
I upgraded the spare steelie to version with more holes to get rid of the speed limit.
And put a matching 33" Wildpeak 255/80r17 and MAN is it tight.
I had to get help one person pulling back on the spare while I tightened the chain, to try and fit it with all the exhaust and hangers back there.
And still wrapped that area of exhaust with heat wrap, even though it already has a metal shield. It was just all so close to each other.

Wherever I end up making the axle chop, hopefully it works fine in terms of:
-not melting spare
-properly exiting exhaust fumes/gas in a good way, etc.


Plus, with that one upward bend of the stock exhaust, I can't help but wonder if they did that to keep an air pocket up top and prevent water getting in, so the engine doesn't bog down in deep water up to the exhaust
though I'm sure it helps to keep the revs up to force exhaust out and not let water in, which you're probably revving anyway being in 4LO at that point

If youre doing an axle dump/chop, get yourself a $20 sawzall at Harbor Freight and go crazy.

so not one tip hanging below an HC rear hitting rocks, but two...
dual exit exhausts come on powerful cars that have dual pipes + X or H connection running along the entire underbody,
not anemic 1GR-FE's with a single pipe under the body

 

Prob costs about the same amount of money, and afterwards you have a sawzall for other stuff.

Or find a buddy that has one. Takes about 30 seconds to do.

If I was gonna get a sawzall it'd have to be a milwaukee, and you know how much that costs
all my batteries/charger is already milwaukee so adding more (like green stuff Ryobi) would be a mess
not that Ryobi's aren't decent and well priced

buddy has those tailpipe cutter plier things I'll try to borrow it and maybe tape or mark a circle where to cut
not sure how many twists of the tool it takes, hopefully the cut comes out clean and straight as a sawzall, only one way to find out

either that or if the cut is too short potentially having an exhaust shop weld an exit dump whether flat or parallel, so long as it's close enough to the ground and parallel
