Personally, I think it's better than the AL-391 that replaced it.
The 391 was supposed to be able to handle a wider range of shells without malfunction...from very light to real thumpers.
Maybe so, but my 390 never malfunctioned, and I shot a lot of ducks with it.
The gas system on the 391 is definitely harder to clean.

My buddy bought a new A400 not too long ago. It didn't last long before parts started breaking. Though he did shoot it a lot.

I've shot thousands of shells out of the 390 without issue. I've sold a lot of guns, will never let this one go.

My fav local auction company has 4 Browning Citori for sale. Wish I could afford one. They usually pull well over $1,000 these days.

I wore out a release trigger group on my 391 (it started to pull through), plus a cracked gas piston.

I've owned and sold a lot of guns myself, and the 390 is one I regret.
I replaced it with a Benelli M1, then a Benelli Montefeltro, then a Beretta AL-391.
All great autoloaders, but I liked the Silver Mallard the best.
The stock and particularly the meaty fore-end were more comfortable.
It also had the nicest wood of the bunch.

You don't see nice wood any more on most current production guns.

I predict you won't be happy until you own a double.
Though you're fine with what you have now.

I've owned at least a dozen doubles over the years (including one side by side).

Gritto's Gun Reviews: The Browning Citori :)

Never owned a Citori, though a lot of friends had them.
They're slightly chunky, but the weight is nicely balanced between the hands.
Good neutral stock for right-handers or lefties (no cast-off/on).
Decent trigger, nothing special, but consistent and reliable.
Good durable shotgun, and typically has fairly nice American walnut.

Made now at FN in Belgium, the early production was by Miroku in Japan.
If memory serves, Miroku used some SKB subcontracted parts.
Trivia: Citori has always had under-lug lockup, SKBs had a Greener crossbolt, though it appears current production uses an underlug.

Don't get 26" barrels unless you're hunting grouse in thick cover.
I had a beautiful SKB (Sakaba) with 26" barrels and it wasn't much good for anything else.

Get 28" if you're gonna hunt with it and carry it a lot.
Get 30" for sporting or trap.
A slight weight forward bias helps with accurate pointing.

    Good stuff to know.

I've wanted a citori for a while. I'll never afford a Perazzi like another buddy has. Citori do seem to be a good middle ground over/under. BUT, when I shoot over unders, I just don't get the same satisfaction and consistency of the 390. I can shoot the 390 all day with little fatigue.

One note, one of the guys we go sporting clays with uses a good ol Remington 1100. He normally out shoots us. Skill Trumps expensive tools 9/10.

Story time by Superdave, March 2022:

3:30 ish am last night I'm sound asleep but I hear an alarm chirp. Didn't go off. Just chirp which means a warning. I somehow quickly turn on my front RING camera. I catch 2 bastards running into their vehicle and driving away.

I watch the video a couple times like hmm that's weird, why would people run into their car at 3am. OH fawk they must have been stealing some shit.

Text my neighbor right away: YO I think someone was breaking into your truck. He goes outside 5 mins later. All I hear is FUCK!

20 mins later 5 officers are on site. They broke my neighbor's truck window but didn't steal anything.

Thieves can die a slow death!

Just a couple years ago everyone had a job and times weren't so tough. They didn't have a reason to steal.

I just wish I lived in TX. Someone on your property stealing? You can walk outside armed and tell them to fuck off. Here I'd get arrested for all kinds of supposed crimes.
