Brake Controllers

If im not mistaken, i also got that code and it freaked me out as it was the first time even towing anything. what i remember finding was that it was applying brake while still learning the load. When I would get off the brake it would change to the "Learning" flashing code.

After the learning was done the "Applying Brake" color was constant and the Blue standby was also constant

 

Thanks for the response. I'm towing a dump trailer and the weight will vary based on the load. Maybe that's why mine keeps doing it.

Interesting the redarc article doesn't mention this color sequence.

I'm in the process of installing the Redarc Tow Pro as well, and got the harness they sell. I noticed that the harness only has four wires, but the factory connector has five wires. Is this a concern? Anyone know what the fifth wire is there for? 2019 Sport w/tow pkg.

 

Did you check pages 17 and 18 of the user's manual? If you are getting a combination of colors that are not mentioned here I would reach out to Redarc customer service here in the states.

Does anyone have pictures of how to get that switch panel out in order to wire the controller and replace the blank? I'm sure I can figure it out but don't want to break anything. Thanks!

 

Looks good ... and your truck has the all important Clutch Start Cancel button, which is the blank where many people seem to install their controller

 

I don't remember the exact videos, but YouTube, they will do a better job than I can.

 

I've been using this for about 3 years...hasn't let me down yet. Installation? Zero installation - just plug it in and setup your bluetooth.

 

Good to know. I was looking at those but a bit concerned about durability and inclement weather. I guess if the 7 pin connector holds up this should too though.

 

We drove from Miami to Ripon, WI and back down through Arkansas in winter conditions - no problems. Since then, we've towed all over the southeast (back to Arkansas twice since then). Solid. There have been a few reports from people saying the controller is a bit too heavy, and it can become loose with vibrations/ bumps. I haven't experienced that. If it's seated properly, the cover on the 7-pin on our trucks has a small tab that keeps it in place. Other than that - I can tell you the Tekonsha is probably the best one. The only issue I had with the Teko is finding the real estate in the cab without a lot of cutting/ modding. I'm really happy with the Curt though, if it ever dies - I'd buy another one.

**EDIT** There seems to be a pretty solid following for the Redarc controller - but I don't have any personal experience with that one, so no comment.

Thank you! If I encounter any oh s*** moments, I can now break the trailer at my fingertips without having to fumble towards the dashboard to find the brake controller.

 

Installed my REDARC liberty controller today. Thanks to photos on this thread and a few YouTube searches, it took me less than 1 beer. Wiring was cake. My only mistake was that I ziptied it to what looked like a great mounting point from the front and ended up tying up the brake return spring. I fixed that by mounting it with super sticky double sided tape (3M Heavy Duty). I should have taken some pictures but it was snowing and getting dark by the time I figured it out.

I pick up my camper tomorrow and will update on how it functions.

 

I've kinda a two part question for my favored installation point.
I have a Temonsha Prodigy P2 from my old truck. I got the Tacoma correct harness While not as slick as a Redarc, I do already have it.
I would like to mount it just above the quick charger in the center, just below all the switches.

My questions are
1 - Where can I find instructions to run the wiring cleanly to that area? It may be similar to switch wiring there.
2 - I don't think my harness is long enough to reach there. Is there a longer harness or an extender? (Come to think of it I think I might have an original Temonsha harness to pigtail I could turn into an extender, though I'm not the best splicer)

Yesterday I did install my wiring harness in my truck. For now I'll probably go with a Velcro mount below the left switches, but it might be a knee banger. I would only install it when needed for towing, so not too much of a problem.

 

THIS! This right here is what I need to know.

How did you add the Redarc knob in that spot? All my blanks on the left panel are full (TRD PRO). I'd like my knob to be in that lower panel.

Any guidance would be a big help.
