Also not a fan of drilling through the frame when not needed. That being said, if anyone wants an SOS xfer case skid, trade me something cool for it lol. Never installed, coated in primer and paint, collecting dust, hardware safely stashed in the toolbox!

Exactly why I choose Ridgid most of the time. Lifetime warranty, and although it might take a hot minute to get a replacement, it beats paying for new tools/batteries. And if its a discontinued product, they'll just credit the value towards the newer replacement you choose. Also why I swear by Harbor Freight for certain things, like impact sockets. All that being said, I'm a sucker for those fancy red tools, and HD will sometimes price them low enough to justify lol.

I've had a few Ridgid tools that needed to be repaired/replaced. Wait time was not terrible and in some cases I got the updated version.

I got too much in dewalt batteries, but I really wanna go over to Mikita.

I'll never be able to land on just one brand. I know that some brands are more superior in certain categories, but it rarely means anything to someone like me who uses them super casually. I like ridgid purely for the warranty (and superior color scheme!), but shoot for Milwaukee on any tool I can catch in the same price range on sale. Corded tools, are all Dewalt :sawzall:. I suppose if my income depended on it, I'd go Milwaukee as much as my paychecks allowed lol.

I use them for home stuff and not to make a living so they are fine for what I do. Here's my little drill in action when I built my shed. Not a kit, just went to home Depot and bought lumber and said how hard could it be haha. And also me sleeping on the job hiding from my wife. Didn't work, she caught me...

I can't say truthfully that any of my tools have had to endure a torture test, or been used for any really large projects; more at home stuff like you, but I have one tool thats surprised me more than I ever thought it would; a Harbor Freight heat gun. It was some sort of doorbusters type of deal where it was just stupid cheap, and I happened to notice it when I was checking out and snagged it for something like $5. I fully expected it to burn itself up in 1-3 uses. Still going strong today and its seen wayyyy more than I ever thought it would.

Milwaukee and Ridgid power tools are made in the same factory. Probably to different tolerances, but same factory.

Our last house in TX was a fixer-upper. We agreed that we would buy whatever tools were needed to do the job right instead of hiring contractors. Saved a ton and ended up with a pretty good set of tools. All of them were used pretty heavily for a time and a few got absolutely abused. No questions from Ridgid, just serviced or replaced tools.

I did a fairly large project with a Ryobi drill and driver. Now granted, they had been through daily abuse from a contractor type job as a beginners first set of power tools, before upgrading, and were already completely worn out; it took me WEEKS longer to finish a project due to having like 6 batteries on a never ending charge rotation and breaking drill bits left and right. Decided after I wrapped that project up, never again. Bought a Ridgid drill/driver set and the best drill bits I could get my hands on lol.

Sounds remarkably similar. We started with some older Craftsman tools where the battery didn't last. Ended up buying the Ridgid stuff due to warranty and the amount of contractors that seemed to use them. I figured if people who depend on them for their livelihood used them, then they were good enough for me. Also, bought the nicest bits I could afford and hid them in the back of the tool box behind the other crappy DeWalt bits. My wife will grab the DeWalt pack before she sees the good ones :)

I'm planning to meet the guy on Monday. I will ask.

I like it lol. I'll definitely make sure to bring crappy bits when planning to lend tools to friends. Let a friend borrow my bits and came back with one less. I don't wanna say it was a crazy expensive bit, but its more than what you'll find in a box store, I know that. Needless to say, he's no longer a friend :anonymous: Kidding; but it was an expensive lesson lol.

Yes. Hoard the good bits to yourself and yourself alone.

My wife tried to use a wood bit on concrete one time. It would no longer work on wood. I know you can get bit sharpeners, but I've never used one and that seems like a pain. I threw one away just this week because it wasn't digging into wood.

Used my dewalt angle grinder and ridgid drill to DIY some light mounts out of aluminum stock for the roof rack this afternoon:sawzall:
Love tinkering around with this kind of stuff. Makes me feel like a true amateur metal fab’r o_O DIY roof rack on my camper shell matched up stupid flawlessly to my newly acquired up top roof rack recently too. Was super pumped about that one since I built the rack a couple years ago with no front rack to reference. There’s a 1/8” difference in height between the front rack and topper rack crossbars.
