Has anyone experienced their carrier bearing making a squeaking noise? It’s not quite a metal on metal sound, but pretty close. My truck started making this noise around 28k miles. I had Toyota look into the problem twice now and of course, they couldn’t replicate the noise (I know, big surprise). I’m now at 40k miles and the noise is progressing. I have pinned the noise to either be coming from the carrier bearing or the u-joint directly behind the carrier bearing, but I doubt it with the problem going on for 12k miles now. The squeak/squeal noise occurs at all speeds and usually gets worse throughout the day as I drive the truck more (it’s my work truck). Any thoughts?

If you can reliably reproduce the sound, you could spray the carrier bearing with some oil. If the sound continues, you didn't prove anything. If the sound goes away, you have identified the cause.

If you're lucky, the carrier bearing will slide off. On my IS350, it was siezed and I had to cut it off. But that was at 140,000 miles.

i have been quietly waiting for this. time will tell if this is what is going on:
i suspect these bearing are going to start failing as a result of shaft wobble/resonance when decelerating from 30 to 10 mph which causes the
frame vibration most of us feel.
its just my guess...most people that got tsb done say it did not fix problem.

I jacked it up today, ran it, and noticed the rear drive shaft shaking/vibrating. Toyota wants to look at it again since I’ve pin pointed the noise. But I think you’re right.

Toyota ended up replacing the driveshaft, carrier bearing, and u joints all under warranty. Problem seems to be fixed for now.

Just thought I would chime in on this thread too. My 2018 is at 40,000 miles. I started hearing what I would describe as a bird chirping sound coming from somewhere under the cab. I took it to the dealership, but they were unable to replicate the sound. A couple of weeks later I happened to be driving near the dealership when the sound reappeared. I drove up to the service line and let the service rep know that the sound was now presenting. He immediately drove it over into the shop and let the tech listen to it. Chirping sound confirmed by the tech. They had some difficulty diagnosing it because when they put it on the rack the sound would disappear. Eventually they tracked it down to the driveshaft and carrier bearing, which they are replacing under the drivetrain warranty. Shout out to great service from Fort Walton Beach Toyota.
