There is an actual map on very last page of the forest order with an outline of the fire zone. As long as you trail outside of the fire zone, you are good.

On that angle the fence post would have held just fine. lol

Don't see static line and rescue 8's posted here often. What group are you training with that practices high angle rescue?

Totally. We ended up using the fence to set up offsets.

We do slope maintenance, rockfall prevention, and geological/geotechnical investigations (mostly the first two, though). Missed out on getting to do some work up at Echo Summit this week, sadly, but should have some real work coming up in SoCal at the start of the month.

I still belay with an ATC. Even though I've got 2 Gri-Gri's and a Sum Fader. You can't thread an ATC backwards. Only time the auto-locks see action is if I'm projecting something.

I am actually surprised they let you use your own vehicle. Same with not having wheels chocked.

Different agencies have different procedures I guess.

    Howdy folks,
I’m looking to combine my love of fishing and a new found love for four wheeling. What’s you recommendation for 4 wheel and fishing adjacent spots? Bonus points if I don’t have to pay for a camp spot and is reasonable distance from the bay

Hit up Hollister OHV Saturday, cruised around solo for a bit, camped, and then met up with @Taco-Obsessed, @Impoy47, and @BrokenCoastie today. Good weekend to break in the lockers.

What kind of fishing? Lake and boat? Small stream? Rivers? Ocean?

Since the spot is already blown up, a fun place to go in the spring/summer/fall is Bowman lake area. There are several lakes there, they are all best fished by boat, I've never had luck from shore, but I mostly fly fish which isn't the best approach for a bigger lake. I've had a little luck fly fishing the stream that feeds Sawmill lake. It's a great camp place, fun off-roading, and relatively close to the Bay Area and a small inflatable would do great out there.

Truly there are tons of opportunities all over the place. Pretty much every lake in the Sierras has fish in it from historic or current stocking, and if it's NF land you can camp there for free. Find some with a dirt road to it and check them out! Rivers can be a little more challenging because they usually come with private property and/or government restrictions and needing some local knowledge. There are some spots along the Feather river that are a little off the beaten path and supposedly have some good fishing. I'm not sure if those all got burned up in last year's fires or not though.

The truckee river has a wide variety of camping options near by if you're looking for trout.

I haven't fished it much, but the Little Truckee doesn't look half bad from what I've seen, either.

You have to hit the truckee early in the year. It get low fast these days with no snow

Oh ya... I can't stand camping in public campsites. Feels like I'm trying to sleep in a WalMArt parking lot. But I totally should have made a Sunday day trip.

If you plan on heading over to the 395 side via 120, you need to know you will need a reservation to enter Yosemite between 6am and 4pm.

I had asked the NPS if you were driving through, would you still need one of these permits. I was told no--today, I learned differently. What's kinda f'd up is that normally, the entrance fee is good for 7 days but these stupid entrance permits are only good for three. They have an answer for that too (you need two)! I also got a note from the maintainers of the Bodie State Park IG account implying Yosemite has been waiving the drive thru fee--I do not see that on the Yosemite web site. YMMV.
