I have a 2019 DCLB SR5 with factory running boards. I’m thinking of ditching them, I don’t really use them. Anyone have any pros or cons (or pictures) to offer before I lay my 60 year old body on the ground to remove them? All opinions welcome…thanks ahead of time.

They help with rock chip prevention, but are chin busters. None on mine. At 57 have no problem getting in/ out.

Each one is held in with 6 bolts. The running boards are most likely lighter than they look.

My predator pro step bars were like 13lbs each lol

Got it thanks. I guess they’re aluminum, definitely not steel.

Id plug them holes if you do decide to take them off. I just put the poem 6 inch tube steps on my taco. They did cut down on the crap sprayed all over the lower doors etc.

If they are the aluminum ones, they are quite a bit heavier than the ones others have mentioned. 13mm socket should do the trick. 3 mounting points, 2 bolts in each section.

Quicksand with hood protector, color matching decals on tailgate latch, mudflaps, glovebox, and tailgate hitch cover.
It is all an individual thing, but I would look at pics of tacomas without running boards and see what you think of the look first. I definitely wanted running boards myself, not to "use" as a step, but just for the looks. I thought it looked better with them. As it turned out, my wife actually uses the running boards on the passenger side when she gets in, along with the grab handle, because she is short and the truck is a little high for her. So it ended up being something that is actually used, although I had just gotten them for looks! I was a little pissed off at myself though, for not looking into how they were installed because I did not know at the time, that the truck came predrilled for them, and they simply bolted on. I had the dealer install them as part of the predelivery process. Later on when I found out how easy it was, I was kicking myself for not doing it myself, as I did with all the other mods that I did!
