Great looking truck and spot!

 

We have had it a year and a half and it has gone everywhere I have dared to drag it. We had a tent trailer before and this was a big step up in comfort, especially in the cold, wet or windy weather. My wife demanded a bathroom after just the mini Thetford porta potti in the tent trailer. I like how short it is at only 16’ it follows right behind the Tacoma. Only issue so far was a USB plug breaking but I just replaced it with a dual 12V and USB to plug in the portable fridge. We added a 2” memory foam topper to the bed and a few extra tie down points to secure cargo better on the rough roads and trails. It has been on many forest service roads classified as “high clearance not maintained for passenger vehicles” without issue. I will likely increase the tire size to match the 265/75R16 on the truck and it is the same bolt pattern so double spares.

 

have you had it in rain? If so how was it in that situatioon?

 

I've camped out of the back of my 06 every year until I purchased a Winnebago Minnie Winnie 22R. I figured I've paid my dues....decided after truck camping at Convict Lake in the Sierra's one trip where the nighttime temp got down to 31 degrees that this old geezer at age 68 needed to do something different. My pants hanging outside were frozen the next morning and the spot where I got up to pee during the night was a "peesickle" in the morning.

Great spot. I love Canyonlands. We went MTB riding there back in the late 90's. Need to go back again.

Any experience with this lovely trailer in subfreezing weather??

 

Coldest boondocking was in Kybers with overnight lows in the mid 20s F and daytime highs in the mid 30s. 3nights and used less than 1/2 of a 5 gal propane tank for heat, hot water and cooking. The heater is a Truma Combi heater and hot water in 1, ducted to vents in the front and rear as well as one to the tanks to prevent freezing. The trailer holds 2 of the 5 gal propane tanks in the tongue box so you would likely run out of water (21 gal) or black/grey tank space (24 gal combination) before propane. The 2 of us have boondocked for 4 nights and were at 50% water and 50% waste tank with one navy shower each and all dishes done outside to save water and waste tank space. Could probably go a full week. I always bring an extra 5 gal of water and have never needed it.

 

Got the new Mamba III hardshell from OVS mounted up this weekend! So far it seems to be a huge upgrade from the trusty ol Tepui Ayer II. Cant wait to get out for the first trip in it
