Got a $75 ticket in Prince George last hunting season at a road block. Was told the lights needed to have physical covers when vehicle on numbered highways/roads. Speaking with two RCMP constables I know this was confirmed but enforcement varies through he Province depending on the local commander.Does not seem to be an issue on the island.

What has been your experience? I really liked mine for spotting moose etc. on highway when driving in the north.

Section 4.25 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act
    Off-road lamps

Despite section 4.04 (2) (c), a vehicle equipped with off-road lamps when on a highway must have the off-road lamps concealed with opaque covers.

Like a lot of laws it's at the discretion of the individual officer if he/she wants to ticket you for something. My lightbar is recessed in the bumper so I doubt they'd even notice.

Thanks for your reply. Could you perchance direct me to pictures such light placements. I plan to install an ARB bumper whenever it shows up (backordered).

Division 4 pretty much covers it (get it!)
If your lights meet the 4.09 specs you might call it an auxiliary driving lamp.
Otherwise you fall under 4.25 and have to have opaque covers.

Lightbars are ticket magnets around the BC side of the AB border towns; Golden, Fernie, Jasper, Dawson Creek - I've seen CVSE give tickets out for them.. There are a lot still driving around open but when they do a crack-down they'll get you.

One of the reasons I don't run BD LP6 up front yet.. no covers available for them.

I run vivid lumens version of the lp6s. No covers no problems with cops and cvse in cache creek or kamloops.

So far, but you are non-compliant with the MVA Regs and there isn't much argument you can make if they stop you.
I get a decent amount of light out of my Squadrons, and they stay covered and legal when not in use.

I dont use my vivids on paved roads.only on dirt roads. And I have been through a road block last year for the covid stuff in Boston bar and all the cops didn't care any of my lights have covers.

And yet when the WCRA ran their rally cars on a hwy transit section during an event in Barriere they all got tickets for having their lights open.. It comes down to what the officers are looking for and how bad of a day they are having. It's the same as the officers walking down the waiting traffic line when the coq is closed and writing winter tire tickets..

I have BD Squadron Sports in the place of the OEM fogs (And aftermarket HID headlights) hasn’t ever been an issue for me. I hit a lot of road blocks due to shift ending times in the middle of night. I haven’t ever been asked.

Carry a roll of duct tape with you. If you can fix the “infraction “ right away you probably won’t get a ticket

I run a light bar on my roof rack, ditch lights on the hood and a light bar recessed in the front lower grill. No issues so far. Travelled to the Arctic Ocean with the roof top light bar along the Alaska Hwy no problems. I will carry the duct tape roll from now on though!
    Cheers

Hey, I live in Richmond too. I use the light bar out along dyke rd. at night. Make sure I don’t annoy anyone though

Law is they must be covered......but, in rural BC everyone working in the bush runs them uncovered and is diligent about turning them off when there is other traffic around. The authorities aren't out harassing the loggers when they come to town, but if your are stopped for some other infraction and show some attitude, it is an easy add on for them to adjust that attitude.

Driving up and down to and from Big White you see many running their light bars day and night. Most don’t turn them off in traffic. I think I could get away with claiming my lights are covered just with the amount of road crap splattered all over them!! :bananadance:

    None.... yet
I had an uncovered bar on my F150. I made sure it was wired into the high beams.

My LED 6 inch are bumper mounted and on my high beam switch and not covered. A buddy got a ticket in Abbotsford for his. I removed all the extras off mine as I have ordered a new Taco and might mount them as ditch lights and will definitely get covers for them
