Somebody had waaaay too much fun in Nashville. I'm honestly surprised Avis let this shitbox back into rotation.

All four wheels curbed. At least two are curbed multiple times. I couldn't find a body panel that wasn't missing paint.

Alignment seems ok. One tire slightly out of balance. Interior scratched to hell. Somebody boot stomped the dashboard like Rick James. This car has been thrashed. Kinda disappointed. I mean, I'm driving to a mine where it will be further thrashed, but I'm still disappointed.

Hopefully you had them note on the contract that it had lots of damage. That way they don't try to pin it on you.

I took detailed walk around pics on the pick up. I plan on emailing Avis and cc my company's travel desk tonight about it.

Wow, I don’t think I would have taken it. That is too messed up. I always take a video around the car and comment on any damage. I also record the mileage when I valet park. I don’t want to get stuck with repairs from someone else’s damage. I just got back from New Orleans this afternoon. Within a mile of the rental return, the brakes started grinding, the CEL came on, and a low tire pressure indicator came on. Glad it was going back. New Orleans streets are so rough, they must beat the crap out of cars.

    I believe it.
For one, I’m from Tennessee. And I’ve been to Nashville more than once.
I do my best to avoid it.

Plus, I’ve rented from Avis. They were super cool. The guy literally told me, “If I took the insurance, I can bring the car back in pieces, And it will be covered. So long as all the pieces were there”
Looks like someone took them up on it, huh?

But seriously, they were a great company to rent from.

Lol. I can't decide whether I'm into it or not. Radar cruise works well, Lane keep is hit/miss. Sometimes it's nice to let it drive with a single finger on the wheel, but equally sometimes it's actively fighting what you want to do. It would get old quick.

The radio isn't without it's glitches, but it's nice to have a voice prompt that understands exactly what I say.

It's not exactly quick either, but sport/eco/normal are all very well defined and unlike other cars that have these buttons, they really do turn on unique shift maps. The mileage is phenomenal.

It drives like a big sedan. There's a teensy bit of sportiness to the suspension, and it does want rail around corners, but it's clearly tuned towards a leisurely highway comfort.

Nice car, or it would be if it wasn't beaten like a salt mine mule.

Those quarter panel scratches could be from driving under a closing gate at a parking garage

One time in Hawaii we were given a stinky Tahoe that smelled like it had been submerged in a river. We parked that night and came out in the morning to find it full of bugs and cockroaches that had been underneath the seats. All over the floor, up on the windows and dash. I drove it back to the rental place with a hoodie on and the windows rolled down.

Rental just got turned in. Tennessee backwoods mud covers all sins. :anonymous::anonymous:

Dude at the turn in desk didn't care one iota.

I gotta say I learned something about adaptive cruise control today. Get on a rural interstate behind four other cars that are also using adaptive cruise, and you feel like you're on the backside of a slinky. Maybe the next generation of tech will evolve where they talk to each other and quit with the slingshotting. :cookiemonster:

    More than I can afford
I had a Ford Escape on Oahu that looked like someone had been living in it and every seat had a "body soil" outline on it. Probably from wet people jumping back in the car after swimming.
Every Jeep I have ever rented on the Big Island has looked like it had been wheeled hard. Last one I got was oozing mud out of every nook and cranny. I just did the CYA move of doing a video walk around on pick up. Didn't matter to me as I have also wheeled every rental Jeep I have had on the island.

I just did my expense report and noticed the rental bill came in 8 bucks higher than booking.

So I poured through the receipt and found this gem:
"Fuel on pickup: 14.2 Fuel on return: 13.6"

So on return I stopped 5 miles from the airport, topped it off, then drove straight there. 5 miles. I checked. These assholes must have taken that 5 miles, then filled the neck and dribbled a little on the paint, and charged me 8 bucks to do so.

    Fuck Avis. Twice.
