Burzp4WD's Build Thread

Blessed to be able to upgrade to a brand new '22 TRD Off Road 4x4 in Lunar Rock three weeks ago. Coming from an '06 TRD Off Road Prerunner. I always loved the Quicksand and Cement colors and it's a shame they didn't continue them in the new models but Lunar Rock has got to be my favorite now-- I liked it when it first came out back then but I loved it after seeing it on the truck in person. I had started a build thread for the Prerunner here in the 2nd Gen threads but it was a rare occasion that I modded it knowing that I wanted a 4x4 in the end. So here's a build thread that'll be slow and steady! This first post will always be updated with the latest photos and mods/accessories list as we go along.

I put in a reservation for this truck in the beginning of February and was told an 8-10 week lead time for it to get out of production. I was prepared to see it towards the end of this month(March) but was pleased to be surprised by a text from the Toyota rep that it was ready the first week of March. Picked it up with 3 miles on it-- my first vehicle that I bought new!

Picked up the blackout emblems from the dealer when I got the truck and actually bought the blackout wheel vinyl way before I got the truck haha.

 

Didn’t want to have the same cluttered center console and glovebox compartments like my 2nd Gen so I got some organizers to look more presentable.

 

Up next was tint! Wanted to get it done for heat rejection and uv protection for the interior. Ties in with the blackout theme I seem to have going on too.

 

Forgot to request the dealer not to drill into the front so I ended up buying a replacement front valence from Toyota.

I had a magnaflow off road cat-back exhaust on my 2nd Gen which I eventually added a resonator to and then went back to stock after getting annoyed by the drone. I wasn’t planning to grab an exhaust for this anytime soon but a member on here was selling it for a good deal(with a black tip too!) and they lived near me so I picked it up right away. Installation was a breeze with the hangers and parts still pretty much fresh from the factory haha. Absolutely love the sound of it, it’s perfect for a daily driver. Just a mild low tone and not much drone.

 

Spidertrax wheel spacers are a great addition for stock wheel/tire setups— much more aggressive look and will do for now until I upgrade those eventually.

 

I’ve always liked that color. Great looking truck and you’re off to a good start

Another piece I got in last weekend— KTJO4x4 grab bar. I was so used to the 2nd Gen driver grab bar that I had to get this haha. Finish is very close to oem. Fit is adequate; I’m a stickler for that but it’s pretty good for being aftermarket.



Also, best mpg so far! Little trip to San Diego to go to a concert last night.

 

Sliders done and installed by @Shmellmopwho along with a CMC! Feeling much safer to hit some trails and run bigger tires!

Felt like a kid again when the FedEx truck showed up— Softopper delivered! Most likely will install it Saturday

 

Softopper on! Ready to go camping in a few weeks haha. Absolutely love the look and versatility of the softopper in still being able to use the bed if ever I need it. Prinsu roof rack next maybe?

 

Ended up ordering a Prinsu rack and it came in earlier today— just in time for my camping trip next weekend! Spent the afternoon installing it and even took my time with the holes in the trim to make it as clean as possible. Mocked up the recovery gear I planned to put on; going to try and mount them before next weekend!

 

Got my gear mounted on the rack and finished making a set of modular platforms with 3/4” plywood— heavily inspired by Bambeds except didn’t have it in my budget for this coming camping trip so I took the time to make it myself will go well with the softopper tent extension; I’m good to go for this weekend!
