    Hello all,

It's official; I'm in line to purchase a 2022 Tacoma SR5 4x2 DCLB. The good folks at Longo Toyota placed an order for the truck. I'm hoping it wont take too long for it to be built.

    Here's a quick Photoshop:
    taco.jpg

Planned mods include a roof rack, low pro tonneau cover, bike mounts, heritage grill, and Method MR702 wheels in bronze.....and maybe some vinyl decals....but probably not. Outside of that, I plan to do a ton of camping, road trips with the family, and hauling clay and pottery equipment.

Things I'd like to find out on TW include techniques for a proper break-in, wondering if road bikes can hang over the tailgate, and where to learn about part numbers for Toyota parts. I'd kind of like to look into the heritage grill used on the SR5 Trail Edition. I'm also curious to see if anyone has tried a rooftop tent, both over the cab and over the bed.

At any rate, thanks for reading. I'm looking forward to participating on the forums!

    Tony

    Welcome Tony from S. Pasadena!

    Very interested in your adventures.

I'd ask for some of those add-ons to be included before taking delivery...like the heritage grill. Does the SR5 come with TSS?

Also, there's an OEM tonneau cover that can best be added at the dealership too! After taking possession, the price is ridiculous! (Yeah, I checked/asked my dealership about it)

I’m not your guy for that, others will answer -personally I’ve typically used 500mi of non-linear/non-constant driving. However others say not necessary/no special requirements.
There are pads specifically for this (bicycle) and bed extenders (motorcycle) specifically for this.
I use Sparks Parts but there are many other online parts resources. We even have resident members who are happy to help.
You can do this yourself, but some dealers won’t support it, since the TSS is in the grille. Some folks get the “FACTORY LIFT KIT” installed by the dealer, which includes this change and is then warrantied. Here is the thread.
Both - Check out the BST forum for potential deals as well as overland posts. CVT and others are often mentioned.

    AGAIN, WELCOME!

it will be a great looking truck

have you checked out the undercover ridgelander cover or the diamondback bed covers? They both can carry cargo on top of them

Hi all, thanks for the warm welcome. I really appreciate it!

    Here you go! ;)
    File_000.jpg
One of my summer projects is to make some coffee mugs with red/orange/yellow markings. Stay tuned! ;)

Thanks for the response! My family does tons of camping in Sequoia, JT, Big Sur, and Death Valley. It'll be fun to have extra space for gear. I was thinking about having the factory include the roof rack, but that'd be $400 versus $280ish for the parts. Haha, I'm on a teacher budget so every penny saved will go a long way.

BTW, I'm basically getting a stock SR5 so I was unable to get any of the tech upgrades due to the global chip shortage. My salesperson mentioned that I could get the tech package with BSM and cameras if I purchased a TRD Sport or opted for the pricier nav packages on the SR5. But I'm actually okay not having any of those goodies. I'm really looking for a work horse to cart things around town. Haha, my Forester has done an amazing job of that, and has even managed to transport 2,000 pounds of clay! So I can only imagine what a Tacoma can do, even with it's payload.

Thank you for taking the time to look up posts for me. This is pretty fantastic!

I'm really handy so swapping out a grills, with or without TSS, will be pretty easy. I've actually swapped out suspension setups, diffs, and drive shafts on my Forester so I'm looking forward to working on a Tacoma....but hopefully not for a while. I don't anticipate ever going off-road so the stock suspension will fit the bill, but it's nice to know there's a dealer supported option for a truck lift. I definitely want to enjoy the truck stock for a while.

Thanks again. I'm looking forward to participating in the community.

ALL Tacomas come with TSS (Toyota Safety Sense) from 2018+. BSM (Blind Spot Monitor), etc. are optional via tech, premium packages. It most certainly can be done, you’ll learn about aftermarket offerings, etc. However, the issue centers on dealerships and Toyotas handling of these situations. That thread will have several bits of information about these issues and options/opinions.
Make your truck your own. You are the only person who has to be happy with it. :taco:
