Lowlife tried to steal the tailgate on my 2016 Tacoma they cut the wire to the back up camera but couldn’t take it because it has a lock! So now dealer is charging me 3 thousand because they say the entire harness has to be changed..is there anyway to fix without paying that insane price? FAEDC7A1-A5D0-4438-81E6-65E927ACE423.jpg

That's ridiculous. Sounds like an insurance claim.

Get out your soldering iron and heat shrink tubing and reattach all the wires in the harness.

This seems like the best thing. Not like there are airbag sensors in there, no reason for the dealer to want to replace the entire harness.

it's a 2016 you don't need to go to a stealership. take it to a body shop or even one of those audio places to see what they say.

or like someone above said, insurance claim it.

Insurance claim. Super unfortunate, but its why you have it.

Just solder or crimp the wires back together. Why go through a weeks long hassle for a couple cut wires then have the dealer fuck your insurance company for 3k?

most defiantly, if you feel it is something you can't do take it to a car audio shop, they cut and solder wires all day, they could make it look like it has never been messed with.

Like others said, splice it back together and roll on. It's not fiber optic :D

Avoid insurance, surely if you can't splice it you can find someone who will do it pretty cheap.

It wouldn’t be a problem that they literally cut like 3 inches of cable? I could still splice and solder together? Thanks guys for the replies

Shouldnt be, just strip back more of the wire loom to get enough wire to work with. You can also add more wire if you need more slack.

Figure out which wires go where, start from that point and solder them up as mentioned. You can splice your cable cover and either wrap or heat to re-seal it.
Or take it to an audio shop or 'the local guy who does that' for a lot less than 3k.

The guy at the dealer told me that the Toyota made it complicated for the top tier models..mine has the camera and the sensors so it goes together with the harness but if it didn’t have the sensors it would have a cable that would run from the camera to the body with just a clip like the one in the picture I attached..
