I was just wondering, if someone did take the drain off, but then couldn't get the fill off, is it possible at all to fill from the breather cap hole (after removing the breather cap)?

likely very slow process. Better would be to remove a cv axle and pour in there.

My angle of attack method might work. It works better if you can use a chisel shaped like the one pictured, it's called a rivet buster, flat on one side so you can get a better angle at it.

    This might be the one.

I was using one of these. Chews right through the plug and I'm having a hard time getting good strikes being on the ground

I could be mistaken, looks like a wood chisel.

It looks like a wood chisel to me too. Is it completely flat on the 'underside' - the opposite side of the beveled side? If it is, it's a wood chisel.

I chiseled mine out along with repeated heat cycles with a MAPP torch.

Keep in mind that the chisel is to create a ledge only, if you keep chiseling you just chop off the ledge and you are back to square one.

Once you chisel away enough metal for a ledge/indentation, switch to a flatter tool (I used an old 3/8 extension) and then hit that indentation counter clockwise to knock it loose.

I replaced mine with a company called "Gold Plug" https://goldplug.com/.

I used heat and a air hammer to get mine out. Now I replaced all of them which is so much better.

Second on the Gold Plug replacements. Stainless steel and a proper hex head.
Mine's been through 2 maryland winters and still looks new.

Personally, I would pay for toyota to offer a trim level that used all stainless steel hardware...

I got that Gold Plug and I wasn’t able to use it. There is not enough room to get a socket on it. I’m very disappointed in that piece of shit.

I went with the Lexus plug with the 14mm. It’s fantastic!

If anyone local to Howard County Maryland wants my Gold Plug and old stock drain plug (not stripped) they are free for the taking.

I’d be happy to do so if I knew how to determine that.

I believe the thread size is 18mm - don't know about the pitch though.
