You have to explain it spell it out and be right there while they’re doing it. They have a special touchless machine you have to ask for it and usually there’s only one tire buster that knows how to use the machine. same goes for balancing you have to ask for the road force balance and request that they write the reading down because if it’s over a certain number it fails. I always stand there and watch. Usually young kids running a race. I am in Arizona and I go to the Corporate store that’s right next-door to the world headquarters/corporate office and I also remind them that it’s just a short walk away to talk to someone in person at corporate. It also helps When you’re friends with the head of HR

Chiming in here to praise the customer service i received…one week after they installed my new 4runner pro wheels and new tires, I was finally able to wash the truck and noticed some gouges near the lug holes. I called up the store first thing Monday morning, and after a quick inspection the manager ordered me a new wheel for replacement. They never hassled me about the timeline of events or questioned the source of the marks (when I had found the damage, i went back to the pics i took on install day and was able to see the marks).

    upload_2022-3-21_11-27-11.jpg

I was ready for at least some push back, but they owned up to what happened and quickly remedied it. I was also able to keep the damaged wheel after they replaced it. Very happy customer!

Some of the responses in here a cringe, it's like people don't care about things they buy with their hard earned money. Kinda sad actually.

I have never had a bad experience with DiscountTire. I recently purchased some Falken Wildpeaks online before bed, they arrived in store the next morning. And when I stopped in to have them installed, they bumped me to the front of the line and I was in and out in under an hour.

I get it with the corvette. I would understand if it was about a paint ding. I don't get it about wheels on a truck especially at Discount or similar places. It's like complaining about the quality of burger construction at McDonalds.

So,you would be okay with them chipping every wheel on your truck?

I may well have "chips" like that on all my wheels, but I don't look at them hard enough to know. Not an "I'm better than you thing", please understand, just not something I get as an issue.
I actually just went outside to look at my rims and yeah I have impact wrench rash on most of the lug holes and rock dings in a fair few places. I guess the trick is to not squat right next to the wheel and then you really can't see it. Light coating of trail dust helps, too.

You clearly have different terrain than I do,and that being said chips and scratches will happen, comes with the territory. And you knew that going in. Honestly,my trucks a pavement princess anymore, just don't have time to play with it like I want to.

They make special sockets for wheels that are "supposed" to prevent the socket rash.

I always bring the wheels separate because I don't want them to mount them with an impact.

My last 3 trucks I bought separate wheels/tires for them and dropped them off to have them mounted and balanced. I told them to take their time and call me when they're done so I can pick them up. I put them on the truck at home myself to make sure I try not to scratch the wheels or the black lugs. It's tough to keep wheels looking like new even during rotation.

Last summer I bought a set of KM3s from the local DT, also installed. Got home and found one of the lug nuts missing. Called them and they said they'll look for it. Got there 10 minutes later and it took them an additional 20-30 minutes to find it. When I got home I checked all of the lug nuts and sure enough 4 to 5 of the nuts on each wheel were way over torqued probably close to double, which would be around 160 ft/lbs.

A few months later I bought set of tires from America's Tire and I highly recommend them. Far more professional than DT, and they use torque wrenches.

You can actually clamp the wheel inside or outside.
Those marks look like it was from the blade that pops the tire off the wheel bead.
Somebody used the blade too close to the wheel and it made those scrapes.
