Quick note that I'm putting together a plug and play kit for DD SSC3 fog lights with backlighting for people with an LED T harness, OEM LED conversion harness with grille lights, or a halogen T harness (I plan to offer those soon too just for completeness).

I'll get things built and photographed and post here in the future.

Dang I should’ve held off ordering my harness! Anyone want to buy my current harness lol. I have not installed my new LEDs so the harness is brand new, but I just installed my dd ss3s without wiring up the backlight since I wasn’t sure what wire I should tap. Just my luck a prefect pnp would come out right after! :frusty:

Sorry about that, I'm a little slow here. I think I've purchased a set but not sure I've received them myself. I do have some ssc2's with backlight capability but they came with just a pigtail.

Assuming you have my base OEM LED conversion harness, two possibilities:

    1. If it's brand new we can do an exchange, no problem there. I *think* I'm going to go with dual side outputs and dual diode modules so pricing could be a bit of a stomach-ache. The alternative is single side and dual output across the bottom of the grille. Return shipping is about $5 ish USPS first class. If you like this plan just DM me once I have something built and ready for purchase.

    2. Alternatively, as mentioned, I will be offering a halogen T harness for grille light output, it'd just be 2 pieces (halogen T into LED conversion harness) instead of one integrated piece. The halogen T will be small (smaller than the other options out there) and I'll keep costs reasonable on it, maybe $30 or so, but two of those will add up as well. The extra bulk of all these snap-in harnesses is where the integrated one starts to look a bit cleaner, one less pair of DRL connectors saves cost too.

So, all is not lost. I am just trying to make life easier on you guys since this seems like an opportunity to do so.

One thing I haven't decided on is if I want to allow for picking and choosing between DRL only, Parking light only, or DRL + Parking light as far as the backlight goes. I might offer those as options but I tend to think most would want the backlight on whenever the stalk is not off, effectively how I have my grille light logic.

Dave’s harness is the cats ass, great quality. I did manage to break one blue clip and he has us covered for that too. Thanks Dave, happy camper here. FA3169D1-7E67-42A3-8998-982632E9A323.jpg

Are the TRD pro headlights suppose to be a bit dimmer on the driver side for oncoming traffic ? I noticed the left headlight seems a bit dimmer. Trying to figure out if this is normal or a potential issue with wiring harness / headlights. First test at night after install. Not too noticeable but it’s for sure dimmer with a more yellowish color. Hard to capture differences with phone but here are a few photos.

The driver's side is notched to avoid glare to oncoming drivers. You can disconnect all but the driver's side to see the pattern and then compare it to the passenger's side. Or even easier is hold up a piece of cardboard like an eye patch.

Hey @daveeasa, is there any other form of communication with you, regarding your harnesses, besides here on TacomaWorld? I have a few questions and I am horrible at articulating them over forums and in writing.

That's a bad ass piece of kit.

Getting my backlit SS3's this week to replace the non backlit SS3's. Wiring the fogs into my switch pros so they will stay on with the high beams and get my easy back light compatibility.

OK, so, I have made some adjustments to the OEM LED headlight conversion harness options. Now available in extra long 12" for people with compressors or dual batteries who want more length. And a double DRL/Park output option for SS3 fog light backlight plug and play. Same basic thing just a few more options for customization to your liking.

Also, in anticipation of @kmorgan3 coming through with an assist on a bulk order of parts, I've dropped the entry level base harness from $85 to $80. No changes at all to the spec or parts used, just trying to pass on the savings.

I still see halogen headlights on Tacomas driving around, such a shame :)

Oh boy, just when I thought I've spent enough money too. :cookiemonster: Funny enough I've been looking at arb compressors, dual batteries, and the solar hood panel from cascadia4x4. Dreams for now, maybe reality soon. I still need to swap the chrome cheese grater grill; It's been sitting on the back seat of my truck for some time.

Yesterday I switched my high and low beam connectors on my Tacoma to use a 4 way Sumitomo connector. I wanted to understand the level of effort involved with crimping OEM wires directly on the truck without removing any parts. It is definitely doable but it took me over an hour. Granted I didn’t rush, I added some heat shrink labels to each wire, and I tried to make it look as clean as I could. But I’m also fairly well trained on crimping and I know my wire colors well, and I have all the tools, parts and supplies handy.

In hindsight, this wasn’t a big enough gain to justify the time spent. The H9 male connectors, while not being OEM spec, and despite their bulk, do a good enough job of capturing those signals and retaining waterproofing.

I thought I might move to a single 8 way connector for high, low, sidemarker and turn now that all 8 of those wires are female 090II terminals. I may still do that, it would leave me with a conversion harness with two connectors, rather than 3. Or a 6 way with high, low and turn, and just leave the sidemarkers capped.

TLDR: Something I didn’t really appreciate until now, cutting and crimping takes time, time is money, hence DIY may not actually be any cheaper.

I’m getting stuck trying to wire up the dd backlight…I have all the connectors for the led headlight done, but using the grill connector and rest of the harness components are stumping me. Any guidance here would be great.
    image.jpg

These are the harness components I’m struggling with.

    image.jpg

I dont know how those can connect to the dd harness even if I combine them..when I do I’m left with two male connectors (one from dave’s harness and one from the fog light). I presume I don’t need to use the braided wire/connector that came with the dd fog kit right?

I got gender wrong. Looks like their harness is female input for backlight but male H9 for fog. I was expecting two boys. I’ll send you and @mlr69 a pair of male to male jumpers.
