    Hi All,

I'm new to all of this, apologies for the ignorance. I'll try to keep it short:

I managed to run over some very small cacti on all 4 tires.
Each tire has at least 20-30 spines in it, mostly in the sidewall but some in the tread.
I pulled most of them out and the deepest was maybe ~1.5mm deep.
The tires survived a 2 hr highway drive home, and have been fine since then (happened 3/26)

Are these tires at risk of a blowout? They are the Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT w/Kevlar, the stock OR tires. I was hoping to get some use out of them before upgrading to wildpeaks, but I don't want to risk it.

You can see in this picture how deep the spine went, the red/black area at the tip is how deep it was.

Do your best to avoid cactus, but some will always jump on board. Appears/sounds like a non-event.

Yeah part of me is looking for a reason to upgrade, but the economical side says wait

Thank you! I'll stop worrying about it.

Got some in my tires in Mojave in January, pulled them out and been driving without issues since.
And, if you wanna upgrade, consider Toyo Open Country AT3 instead of Falken Wildpeak.
I've had both, loved the Falkens until I put on the Toyo, then I had a brain orgasm.. they wear better, balance better and grip better in winter...also Toyo are 5 lbs lighter in 10 Ply(E rated ) than Falkens are in 6 ply,(C rated) so better fuel mileage... Awe..just had another one

Looks like you you should be fine to keep driving on those tires. Iv had a few spines in my tire that where larger than that and had no leaks.

Always a good idea to carry a tire plug kit though. $20 at most and an easy way to fix a flat. also alot easier than changing a tire in the soft sand with the tiny OEM bottle jack haha

They look like they did go in too deep. Do you hear any air coming out?

If there's no air leak, then no problem. Try soapy water.

I've never offroaded anywhere near a cactus. Maybe one day.

You are totally fine. 1.5mm is literally nothing as far as a tire is concerned.

If you end up with something like this in your sidewall, then you can think about replacement. Note that even with this chunk ripped out of my Coopers, I still finished another 500 miles of dirt and drove home more than 1500 miles before getting a replacement... which I think I may have done after even another trip or two since it takes a while to get tires these days.

Hell, I have a nail in my tire (going on 2 months).

Someone recently said it was a "structural" thing and to leave it:rofl:
