So I’ve been hearing a scratching sound coming from my manual transmission. I put the rear of my truck on jackstands and ran it and the noise is coming from my transfer case.. you can hear it more in 4 and 6th gear. What can it be? Driveshaft yoke?

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

On the rear of the transfer case there will be 2 plugs similar to the image below, take the top one out and see if fluid drizzles out. If not stick a clean finger in there and see how far down the fluid level is.

You should also check the fluid in the manual transmission. You can see the two plugs in the image below.

    Lubrication requirements:

Toyota calls out a single grade 75W oil for the transfer case.
SAE 75W Toyota Genuine Transfer gear oil LF or equivalent - Toyota part #08885-81080
    [IMG]
$88 TOYOTA Genuine Transfer Case Gear Oil LF 75W 1 Litre 08885-81080
    08885-81080

It takes 1 quart to service the transfer case, it is expensive -- but then so was your truck.
Search around, this can often be found at a lower price.

    The manual transmission calls for:
SAE 75W-90 with a GL-4 rating (and only GL-4) No product with GL-5 on the label is suitable.

    I used:
    Motorcraft Synthetic (XT-M5-QS)
    RockAuto had the best price.

Both the transmission and the transfer case?
