My current suspension is Bilstein 5100 at all corners. My rears are different part numbers for different lengths. Longer shock on the passenger side.

I was leaning towards making OME my next set of shocks when everything comes due for replacement. However, it seems their rear shocks have the same length and part numbers. Did I miss something or does OME just do things differently and give the same length shock to both sides for the rear?

I did some looking but couldn't find an answer to this.

Earlier I was basing this off Wheelers and a couple other sites. I just now checked the product reference guid on ARB and I’m still not clear on what’s what. I see they list two different part numbers for rear shocks but the one with an asterisk shows a note for “firmer shock”. Does that mean a pair of two identical firmer shocks…? It’s still looking like their rear shocks are the same length. It must not be an issue or they wouldn’t sell so well. Lol here’s a few pics.

Passenger and driver’s side rear shocks are the same length. I had on my 1st gen.

I don’t know anything about people mixing different length rear shocks from any of the manufacturers; albeit they do sell shocks of different lengths.

If you check out bilsteins site, the front 5100s are the same of course but the rear 5100s are different lengths by about an inch. Seems to go largely unnoticed.

I’m not understanding the purpose of asymmetric rear shock lengths. Are you sure they were meant to be paired together?

There are a few other threads on this, I’m not crazy. Just to clarify I am talking about 1st gen, I cannot speak to the other gens. It’s probably to factor in the sag on the drivers side with the gas tank, battery, driver. RE taco lean.

When I ordered my 5100s back in 2018 the shop tried to order both rears identical. I caught the mistake on the PO and got them to order the correct shock for the left rear and the correct one for the right rear. Different parts, slightly.

Yes, I had bilstein 5100s for the rear set up with OME leaf packs. The passenger rear shock was 3/4 or 1 inch longer because the passenger rear shock is mounted at a different angle. I replaced the bilsteins with OME shocks because the bilsteins started leaking.

Any idea how many miles you got from the 5100s before failure? Somewhere along the lines I remember reading that 5100s are gas filled. If that’s accurate, I wonder what’s visible when a leak occurs? A lubricating oil for the piston?

Less than 50k for sure. The best way to put it is a blind person can see the leak.
