Moved up a tire size today, from 265/75r16 to 255/85r16. These skinny 33s fit on stock suspension without any trimming needed.

My AG TRD Off-road Premium finally arrived today after many delays and much confusion from my dealer. It is awesome and I love the color!! I did notice around sunset after I left the dealer that there are already some swirl marks in the paint. Is there a detailing thread for the army green? I’d like to correct this and not replicate it during my cleanings.

    Welcome to Team Army Green!!

A good wax/polish properly applied should eliminate the swirl marks - assuming some idiot didn't really do a number when they washed your truck at the dealer. Using a buffer will make it easier - but be gentle. You can do more damage than good if you apply too much pressure. Lots of good advice can be had in the Detailing thread here on TW. You may also want to have a professional correct the swirls and then apply a good hard wax or ceramic coating.

Congratulations and welcome to the team!! Love those red and black bed stickers!!

it would seem the dealer would be held accountable for any swirl marks? I can’t figure out why they would be there to begin with unless they were trying to buff out a scratch? I know mine had glue lines left behind where they removed the white protective plastic from the hood and fenders. I didn’t see them until the sun hit it just right either. I took it back and they got them off with a rubbing alcohol type of solution. It’s a finicky paint , be careful with it for sure.
    Good luck!

Thanks for the welcome and advice guys! The dealer is a few hours away from my home, so I’m not sure how holding them accountable would go now. I couldn’t see them from 4-5pm yesterday at the dealer, but from 6-7 they were clear as day. They appear to be very fine and all over the body. This truck has the plastic paint protection added to the hood, mirrors and door edges. These were added at the port in Florida before shipping to NC; I assume they also would have cleaned the truck before installing those. I will take a look at those threads too. I wasn’t sure if the non metallic paints were better with certain waxes or polishes than others. Im going to check the paint today at certain intervals to see how evident it is.

Might I offer a suggestion. Take it to a pro, and have it ceramic coated now. Sure you could do it yourself, but many vendors do paint correction first that could take care of those swirl marks, and you would add a layer of protection to the truck that will last years. Some even have self-healing properties that can prevent, or help with future swirl marks, or light scratches. I had mine done and I love it. A simple washing now makes it look like I spent all day waxing.

Prepping the vehicle and ceramic coating it could easily cost $2k-3k. I second this recommendation though, ceramic coatings chemically bond with your clear coat, whereas wax comes off after a certain period of time. Additionally ceramic coatings offer UV protection, and have a hardness that is much greater than your clear coat, aka it’s harder to scratch a vehicle that is ceramic coated (great for off-roading and avoiding pin stripes).

The cost of the materials to do a coating is about $100, most of the expense is for labor. I ceramic coated my truck myself the first month I got it, using CarPro’s C.Quarts UK 3.0

Having a shop prep the vehicle for you would probably be a good approach, as you don’t want to seal in scratches, water marks, or swirls that are already on your truck. You could then take your prepped vehicle and coat yourself, saving $1-2k.

Nailed it. I got a 5 year guarantee on mine, with free detailing during those 5 years. If any part of the car shows signs that the coating has failed, they will redo the whole car. Took the tech all day to prep and seal it, and he was meticulous. He earned the money that day. I took advantage of a coupon they had, so out the door was $1,200.

This pic was after a light washing last weekend. Right back to the ceramic shine.

I was doing a little reading over the “Toyoguard Platinum” option that is forced on all Southeast Toyotas. It appears that they apply some sort of sealant to the paint at the port. I think this may very well be the source of the swirls and not actually damage to the paint. Anyone have an idea what this sealant is and how to remove it?

i will NEVER take my truck to the dealership for any kind of detailing again. the people doing that stuff at the dealership (at least at my dealership anyway) are not pro's. I would do like the other guy suggested and take it to a pro.

i asked my salesman about this. I said "Is this some type of ceramic coating?". He said, "It's like a ceramic coating" :jerkoff:

Not the OP but it appears to be after market Baja style fenders for more clearance and a wider body. Also known as badass! Look up Baja trucks for examples..

Thanks for the recommendation. I have never looked into ceramic coating before, but with this paint color it may be a good option. I called a few highly reviewed shops in the area and got pricing. Two were at $1000 and included prep work. One shop uses Gyeon brand and the other uses Modesta. I’m fine with paying the money if it really works!
