Sounds and looks like a gimmick to me. I worked in a mine that ran automatic fire suppression on the drills. The factory came out and installed them. One went off as a small exhaust leak hit the main canister and it got hot enough to expand the gas in the deploy gas cylinder making it go off while the engine was running wide open. The resulting mess took a week to clean the drill enough to run again.

The unit used the standard baking soda to suffocate a fire. The media was sucked into the engine and even though all oils and fuel were drained and refilled. All air filters were changed and ducts washed out it was inside the engine. Within 60 hours of operation the engine didn't have enough compression to start and run. The bearings also showed sign of premature wear from the media. Long story short if use a chemical fire extinguisher on an engine fire be prepared to do a full rebuild IMHO.

Resurrecting the thread. Blazecut uses gas to remove oxygen from the engine compartment to douse flames. Somewhat popular in VW circles.

There seems to be similar products now, but haven’t heard any testimonials how it saved someone’s vehicle.

Always the same, “hope I never have to find out”.
