Hello, I’m new to this page, but not new to Tacomas. My first truck was a 1986 Toyota Deluxe Extra Cab 4x4…and I’ve had a few others over the years, but kept them all mostly stock.

Anyway, to the point! I bought a 2021Tacoma SR5 last year. It’s currently 100% stock, but I need new tires! I’ve tried to read as many of the old threads as I can find, but can’t find my exact question.

The truck came with the Trail Edition package, with what is supposed to be 16” TRD “Off Road” wheels and tires. The tires are 265/70R16. They aren’t very off road… and and the wheels aren’t TRD badged. The wheels are ok, but I want to get a bigger tire, in an All Terrain tread on the factory wheels. I want the biggest tire that I can get without major modifications to the truck.

The local tire shop says I can run 265/75R16 which would give me 1” or can run 285/75R16 with some lift. They said a local guy with the same truck added 285s with a Pro Comp 2” front and 1” rear Leveling Kit, and doesn’t rub.

I need to know if this is correct, or not? If that won’t work, what will I have to do to make those tires work, or what other size should I get and what lift would I need to make it work?

    Thanks for your input!
