Bull. The paint looks horrible. My prior vehicle sat out in the Florida sun 5 day a week, hail storms, rain, three miles from the ocean, 17 plus love-bug seasons....for 17 long years and looked perfect. Didn't even have paint loss the size of a period. Unless he went through actual numerous sandstorms and had lots of rocks thrown at his truck the paint should look just fine after only five years. But it doesn't....lets quit defending piss poor paint jobs by Toyota.

Don't get me wrong....I'm glad he has a reliable vehicle...but that paint at only 5 years is terrible. No excuse for significant paint loss...including mileage.

OPs truck could have suffered from the white paint issue plaguing Toyotas during those years, there was a recall. I think after 2020 the white paint got fixed

Mileage has a lot to do with how a vehicle looks. It was literally exposed to elements at speed, 3 times longer than your ford and 3 times the wear and tear.

    Then there is this

Thats awesome! That has to be close to a record for the 3rd gens. My 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am has 344,500 Miles. Its been driven 100 miles in the past 8 years though. Fully restored 9 years ago. Still runs perfect

We are talking about the paint. Our 1986 Ford Aerostar van (which was also white) had 235K miles on it when I traded it for the Ford truck (Sport Trac) which you refer to. And it didn't have any paint loss just like my Ford truck. Again, unless you are going through sandstorms and rocks, mileage has nothing to do with paint. My sons Honda Fit had one of the worst paint jobs in terms of the clear coat...it would flake off. The OP's truck has paint loss due to poor manufacturing....lack of adhesion, not due to mileage.

lol that was a good one.

Very cool though! It sounds like you may drive around some of the same areas as that million mile Tacoma guy that got famous on YouTube.

In answer to your post in bold= WRONG!, it does have an effect. There is road debri in the form of dust and sand and it does wear your paint.

I am not arguing that the paint isn't it's own problem. The toyota truck white paint issue is well documented on this forum. It would not surprise me that it is all or part of the issue. My contention with your post is that you think you can equate the wear and tear on a 120k truck with a 330k mile truck and that is just ridiculous in every single way.

My 2001 tundra interior didn't look nearly as good with nearly 300k miles...the cloth driver seat had ripped in several places, and the rubberized coating on driver foot rest had plenty of wear showing. Even the exterior had lots of paint chips, plus the roof clear coat had badly peeled off.

Well yeah, I think I surly can. Five years...vs seventeen years. Full Florida sun five days a week. Perfect paint on the entire vehicle, including the roof. UV rays is what kills paint....poor manufacturing prep is what allows paint to fall off. It isn't mileage on a five year truck that makes paint just fall off unless you travel 150 mph constantly, which he didn't. Those areas of missing paint is not indicative of paint wear, but just loss of paint due to poor adhesion, otherwise the paint would look much different with different trace patterns, streaks, thin spots, etc. Do you see paint wear along the front roof pillars where it would get the most wind? I don't.

Did you hear the man say OCI is every 15-20K miles = 330K miles? Mods need to pin this sombitch to the top and so we can refer to it on all future oil threads. You know, the ones that start with 'your a dumbass for changing your oil at the manufacturers recommended 10K'. That one! And the threads that start with 'who else changes their oil at 3K?' That one too!

I changed the oil/filter in my tundra once a year, roughly every 15k miles or more using mobil1. That engine ran perfect at nearly 300k miles 19 years later. You couldn't tell one bit from new. I did the 4 qt transmission drain and replace every 15k miles. It too still worked same as new. Imo, you follow toyota's recommendations for fluid changes for the type driving use on the truck, your going to be fine. Replacing motor oil today at 3k miles is stupid not to mention wasteful.

Both time and mileage have an impact on paint especially given that the truck is in the sun all the time.

I guess I didn't see the pics of your perfect prestine 6600 mile a year truck? Can you post to show this? It's really easy to make claims without proof.

Saying that driving on highways where dirt dust and rocks are kicked up doesn't affect a paint is nonsensical. You don't get it. Also, you could wax your pain weekly and I don't and that alone can make all the difference 10 years later. Too many variables.

Thats nearly identical i had with the tundra, except 3 timing belt kits, 3 serpentine belts, a steering rack, with tie rod ends, and lines, plus one set of struts, and rear shocks. I think i changed closer to 10 sets of tires.

330k on a set of plugs. That’s impressive.

You would fit in nicely over in the 2nd Gen forum where some of the guys are going 100k plus on 30k plugs.
(I’m not naming names either :anonymous:)

And no, I’m not recommending anyone want that long.

Wow that is a lot of driving. And I have been doing 45-50k a year for the last 16 years (sales rep). I had a 2012 (bought used in 2018 with 23k) that I ran to 200k before getting my 2021. I would have gone longer but my company has a 10 year 200k mile cap on the vehicle comp plan. 10k oil change intervals, never burned a drop of oil. Changed plugs at 60 and 120k. They looked fine, but a $6 plug is well worth not burning out a much more expensive coil. Only repairs was the AC clutch and a couple sets of emissions valves that are known problems on 12-15 4.0s. My 21 is at 48k after owning it for 11 months. No issues. Keeping with a 10k oil change interval, if its bad weather I'll let the oil go to 12k and not worry. I buy whatever full synthetic is on sale at napa and buy OEM filters in bulk.
