The key to good gas mileage is to not take it Off Roading!

Might as well hand in your man card on the way out......

    You remember incorrectly. Mythbusters found:

    - Tailgate down or off saves 5%.

    - They did not measure just mirrors; but it was part of their hypermiling episode.

And I just plugged an industrial fan into the bed outlet and faced to to the rear like an airboat. The picture speaks for itself.

If you plan your trips so you mostly drive eastward, you can use the rotation of the earth to assist you in getting where you are going.

I lived a few houses up from Eustace growing up outside of Columbia SC. We were always out stomping through the woods.

I filled up today. The display read 24.2 mpg at exactly 410.0 miles on the trip odo with 33 miles DTE. Mathing it gave 23.14 mpg.

There was also a SAE study/report years ago that side mirrors decrease mileage by 3-7%.

If you have ever been where it's been recently logged most, would be shocked how much of the tree top get left behind.

Do some people not understand that gas makes these things work when they bought them?

I confirmed that removing that chin spoiler consistently gets you nearly 1.5 mpg less, sooo if you want to improve your gas mileage leave it on.

For me, it's staying off the highway. I can get an easy 20 mpg on the backroads option for my commute. Jumping on the highway and doing 70mh drops that significantly.

Between 80 mph and 60 mph there is an easy 4 to 5 mpg difference with roughly 1 mpg gained for every 5 mph decrease in speed. The picture above was completely cheating, I was on the downhill side of a mountain range late at night (so no traffic), and I coasted at 38-47 mph for a little over 15 minutes.
