I’m 3-4” below. But with the cab height Leer, any higher and I wouldn’t be able to crawl in.

 

I’m not sure who else here follows Mav but he just put out a pretty cool detailed video on his new sleeping platform/drawer build. His old setup was really interesting as well.

It’s lengthy but he makes entertaining videos for those of you who haven’t watched his content. Pretty good stuff. He’s not a Tacoma guy but I figured a good build is a good build.

Several in use views from different camps in the Ozark NF last week. Minimal, but works great two. Two nights rain-I use a tarp.

Nice! I havent watched his stuff recently but that new setup is light-years better than his last one. I feel like the ability to put your feet down is a game changer

 

My super simple set up. No drawers, just milk crates.

 

This is my pathetically simple setup. A place to sleep, storage, and seating area if I need to cook or something. It's not pretty but works for a weekend trip and can be removed in about 5 mins

 

It’s perfect.

 

The ability to sit up and actually move around some makes it tolerable. I tried a raised deck style with my original Tacoma back in '96 and it sucked for anything other than crawling into and sleeping. If you only use it during nice weather for overnight or weekend trips it's one thing, but try doing it for more than a couple of days and it quickly becomes miserable- yes, I've met plenty of folks who've done it, but I want to be able to sit up and work on my laptop or watch a movie, change clothes, cook and eat dinner or just move around when I'm stuck back there waiting on the weather to clear, etc. As much as I hate to admit it, I'm not in my twenties or thirties anymore either.

The modularity and ease to remove is awesome. These are the birch ones, I gave them a Danish oil finish.

You can also fit eight 10 gall Rubbermaid tubs under it (long bed) with a little extra room around them.

Recently picked up a Teton Mammoth with a coupon. Width is perfect but its very long. No big deal as my other Teton bags are long too. They still fit just fine either pulling it up higher at the head or tucking in the foot section.

How do you like those 3” thick 7.5 mattresses vs. the 4” 10s (assuming you’ve tried both)?

 

Wish I could find a swing out arm to just hold a cooler, diesel heater & stove. I don't need the heavy duty RigD/tire mount. Need make friends with a welder!

 

As far as Exped goes I've only tried these and they're great. Never had a need for a thicker mattress. I highly recommend them.

I leave mine in the area near the top of my shell with the vents open. When I first got them I'd inflate a little bit more when getting camp setup. They were kinda firm and now I just close the vents and go from there which is even more comfortable.
