My fender flare protectors were super crusty. Decided to look around the web but couldn't really find anything detailed. Some said to use the 3M eraser however it will remove your paint. Do not use that! I decided to use plastic razors found on Amazon and let the protectors soak in Goo Gone for a few hours. Used some elbow grease and 3M general purpose adhesive remover to remove all the remaining glue. Followed up with Chemical Guys Compound (C4) and Polish (P4). New protectors were easy to install using some soapy/water solutions and using a heat gun. Happy how it turned out. Hope this helps someone else.:oldglory:

Just wanted to shout out and say thank you for your post as you did help someone else out aka me
The plastic razor blades which I didn’t know existed was very helpful and with goo gone spray gel I got mine done quickly. Also I had no idea I would need a heat gun to apply the new ones , I thought it would be more like applying tint, again very helpful!

Mine aren't super crusty yet, but they are starting to crack a bit and look hazy. Going to try to knock this out soon before they get worse. Did you use the heat gun at all to loosen the adhesive to remove the old protectors?

These are all great posts on this job. Even though the ones on my truck aren't deteriorated like some of the the ones shown here, (even after 9+ years) they are showing their age with some small black dirt spots all around the edges of the fender-flair ones. (White truck) I'm glad they are in place: (thoughtful touch by Toyota) but what's ironic is there really doesn't seem doesn't to be much, if any, road-rash on them from sand, stones, etc: they feel pretty smooth and except for the edges still look nice.

I'll be working on them in the spring when the warmer weather returns. I actually probably could have done them this week: It hit 60+ degrees in some places here in central and eastern New England. I installed my Pro grille on Friday in 50 degree temps: Who'd a thunk I could/would ever be able to do this outside in mid-February?

My 2008 never got crusty looking like that, just rusty looking around the edges. I remove one a year or two ago and never had any issues with rock picks or anything so I did the other this morning. Just have to get the goo off yet.
