Anybody have experience fitting their bike in the cab? I'm planning on a rear seat delete (double cab), thinking I might be able to store my bike inside while my truck waits for me at the airport.

 

not in my tacoma, but i used to fit my large 29er hard tail in the back of my 98 jetta.

back seats stay up, take the front wheel off, put the fork in the floor well and should be good

 

should fit if you just pull the wheels off...might wanna do a quick pre run at home to verify

 

My large 29er fits with a rear seat delete with front wheels off no problem. I'd have to check if you really want to know but I imagine it would likely fit with the rear wheel on and the dropper down.

pro tip, put a cloth down before testing it if your seat are still there when you do. I put my road bike in my back seat, and it left a grease stain.

 

Pro tip: wax your chain.
My bikes don't leave any grease or oil anywhere.

But yes... Never hurts to throw an old cloth down. Especially with a potentially muddy mountain bike.

 

I fit mine cross wise in a crew cab F250, just had to remove the front wheel. I`d imagine you`d have to remove the rear wheel for a Tacoma. Watch the pedal pins on your seats and, as others said, anything greasy.

 

What are people doing for onboard air that has the capacity to seat mtb tubeless tires that do not want to seat? Is a tank needed in addition to high flow compressor? I'm about to do onboard air and thought I'd address this also.

 

I’m not sure if this trick works on mountain bike tires, but for ATV tires, I put a ratchet strap around the tire itself, cranked it down, and blew up the tire. The pressure from the ratchet strap keeps the bead on the rim so it seats easier and with less required volume.

 

That works on some but not truely difficult ones when using a floor pump. I've never tried a compress of the size that gets mounted onboard.

 

My portable arb compressor seated my tires for me when I had a flat once. Not sure if that answers the “do not want to seat” part of your question.

I happen to have the chain and seat off for maintenance reasons. A large RockyMountain Instinct fits with the fork turned 180 degrees. Looks like a rear seat delete would make the fit tighter, the rear tire needs to clear the armrest for the extra 2". Seat would be no problem. Dog was getting pissy I moved his bed.

Trying the fork from another bike and didn't want to cut it until I was certain it fit and worked well.

 

That’s certainly one way to accomplish what you’re after. I might have swapped most if not all those spacers above the stem to maintain the same geo as previous.
