My truck is in 4 lo and won't disengage, does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

Shift back to 4 hi and reverse for a little bit then drive slowly forward. Try to keep your wheels straight while you are doing this.

I had same issue one time and this may or may not apply to you. I left my truck parked in freezing temps for about a week and it would not come out of 4 low. I left it running parked in the driveway for about 30 minutes and it got warm enough for the vehicle to go back in 2WD.

I believe is has to be in N to switch in and out of 4lo? You may already know this?

This is possibly due to binding stress…

If on a grippy surface, under binding stress drive back in the same manner to reverse / alleviate.

If on low grip surface then just drive for a bit…

Thanks for all the replies. Nothing seems to help, the 4lo light is blinking, but it is stuck in 4lo. I'm in the mountains in North Georgia and it is cold and snowing, so I'm gonna let it warm up to see if that helps. I gotta drive it back to Alabama tomorrow, can I unplug one or both of the actuators to get it home?

Mine will hang up occasionally. Switching back n forth (with some time inbewteen each shift) usually does the trick for me.

Maybe driving it a bit in 4 low will also help it to warm up.

I live just north of you in Cherry Log. Not sure there is much I can do to help you but I am nearby if you need some tools. Let me know.

You renting a cabin in Coosawatee?

Yes, renting a cabin on the mountain between Ellijay and Blue Ridge, thanks for the offer, I have a few tools with me, I'm hoping I can unplug the actuators and drive it home.

I might be mistaken about this but I don’t think unplugging them will disengage the 4 wheel drive. Maybe another member can confirm or debunk this.

    Unplugging wont do anything.

Keep it unloaded in neutral and keep switching between hi and lo. It may eventually come out.

Select hi range turn the key off then try again. I love my 2011 but the hi/low electronics/operation sucks if I could I would go back to locking hubs and a stick on the floor in a heart beat.

You would not happen to be renting in the Sisson "Cherry Log Mountain" development would you? If so, that is where I am.

It's either Double Bald mountain or Gobblers Knob, not really sure.

By the way, it could be a number of reasons, but I had this happen to me a few times with my Tundra. I had to put the transmission in neutral then push the 2wd button and it would eventually go out of low 4wd. I also remember putting it into 2wd and having to drive like a qtr to half a mile before it would disengage…. Good luck

Have you tried driving it forward or backwards and then trying again? Also if you are on a high traction surface, drive it onto a low traction surface and try again.
