Yea, but you can't grow a Tacoma in your side yard/closet/garage/neighbors yard that they are too old to fully keep an eye on...

This was exactly the point of several industry articles I've read. The consensus was that this market has shown that people are willing to pay MSRP (and over), so that even when things with the supply chain resolve down the road the days of discounting thousands off MSRP are gone. MSRP will be the new normal.

people are/were willing to pay it because of the shortage. If inventories return to normal, then competition will drive
The price back down some, but not to where it was in 2020 and early 2021, when demand was down due to the pandemic and the supply chain issues hadn’t yet started. Toyotas will continue to sell at invoice, msrp, or somewhere between, depending on the vehicle. Ram, GMC, et al will still sell well below via incentives because that is what they’re really worth. Buying a new Toyota at MSRP with a trade in in this used car market is a good deal.

I just got $2000 off MSRP on a Mazda CX5 for my wife. This is not the new normal, sounds like the same people claiming masks were the new normal a year ago.

Dealership networks are set up for volume. If this was the “new normal” dealers would have to close all over the country because we can just order from the manufacturer. Thousands and thousands of jobs lost. No real test drives, no sales pitches- how is anyone going to test the 2nd largest purchase of there life by just ordering whats not on the lot. Cars = volume game. Never forget it.

Ever notice the folks saying this is the new normal for pricing work for dealers trying to take as many orders as humanly possible?

markets can change faster than you know…

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.

The dealership model is soon to be dead. Ford is already progressing in that direction bit by bit. They have just registered a new Corporate filing, Ford EV, for direct to consumer marketing and circumvent the laws that prevent automotive sales by the mfg direct across state lines. The dealer sales will go the way of the dodo to maximize corporate profit. Dealers would likely become service centers.

That’s years down the road. As demand for EVs rises, demand for gasoline drops and will also make gasoline attractive again. EVs will not be the only show in town. Ever think to yourself when natural disasters happen what exactly are millions of people going to do to recover? Fossil fuels aren’t going anywhere, anytime soon no matter how much they’re trying to force it down our throats. Solar was all the rage years ago… and while we’ve advanced, we’re years off.
People need to stop thinking about 20 years down the line and understand massive changes aren’t overnight processes.

dealerships are here to stay for quite some time. Ford can try whatever it wants, doesn’t mean it will work. Again… there’s the test drive factor, and sales pitch sale for the large percentage on the fence. How exactly do you suppose we factory order massive purchases without ever driving it.

Good luck to those EV only drivers when they have to head north from an oncoming hurricane! Or those volunteers and disaster workers are working to clean up the mess… guess what they most likely won’t have for a while? Electricity. Fossil fuels save lives, there is no direct replacement where you can fill something up instantly with tanks and can access without the “grid”

rolling blackouts? I guess nobody is driving for that emergency hospital trip they have to take.

My hot water heater runs off electricity… when the power goes out i take frozen showers, now i can’t leave the house unless I’m fully charged. What if it lasts a week+? Oh I’ll need a fossil fuel generator to charge my car ….

What’s coming is the digital dollar be great but in reality control banks will disappear just like blockbuster. Curious to see how they sell the illusion of ownership in that asset.

I overpaid for mine new. 2014 4x4 sr5 t force. About $36k new. Insurance totaled it because flood water got in the floors when it was 5 years old. They gave me $30k and I bought it back for $10k. I think I did ok.

I picked up my ‘22 celestial silver metallic TRD OR DCSB 6mt 4x4 with premium and tech packages on 12/19/2022 for MSRP which was $41,463. I checked with Carmax and Vroom on 4/8/2022 at 3784 miles and was offered 41k and 37k respectively. I would never sell it because I want to keep it. Plus, having worked at carmax previously in their purchasing department I’m ashamed of the company. But that’s some insight for y’all.

Amen brother! My advice to everyone, quit worrying about shit you have zero control over! I mean it! I went so far as to quit watching or listening to the news 3 years ago now and it was quite liberating. I have no clue what's going on out there and I don't care cause I can't do a damn thing about it!

PS: ammo will be the currency of the future.

It depends on inflation. At the current 7% inflation the cost of everything doubles in 10 years. I’m on a buying binge. If I want it and can get it for MSRP or less it’s a victory.

Similar to the housing, RV, and boating market, cars are currently overvalued. Basically when markets are overvalued there will inevitably be a correction. When that happens, people who bought at the high will lose $ if they sell after the correction. The correction is coming as interest rates rise to make up for years of deficit spending.
That said, I agree with Buck Henry at least when it comes to buying a Tacoma. If you want one, buy. The amount you pay over MSRP won’t be significant in the grand scheme and you’ll love the truck. Still has one of the best resale values of any pickup.

I thought i was the only one. I stopped watching the news years ago also. US media is more toxic and destructive than any nuclear weapons.

Besides the news and opinions people give me on Facebook is the real shit anyways, right?

There are also those who because of an accident or other circumstances beyond their control have no choice but to buy in this market. If I HAD to buy I'd go new rather than used if I could help it. A lot of these late model used trucks are going for the same as or even higher than new ones.
