    I saw a few once on Meadow Grounds Lake just to the west of you in the Tuscarora Mts.
    I was hunting grouse during the January late season.

    I spotted what I thought were Mergansers out on the lake, diving and popping up again a good distance away...
    ...which dabbling ducks like Mallards don't do.
    I happened to have compact binoculars on me and had a look.
    Sonuvabitch. :eek:
    Not Mergansers...Loons.
    If they vocalized at all, I didn't hear it.

    Never seen Loons before or since.
    Mind you, this is pretty far out of their supposed range.
