I'm currently AD and stationed in VA but I get out relatively soon and moving back to Florida. When I say I've called almost every dealer ship in VA and FL looking for a lunar rock Tacoma i mean it. Not only that almost every single one already has a deposit on it already. What I'm curious about is how do people find the Tacoma's they want so quickly it seems like everyone beats me to the punch... I go on leave here soon so when I get down to Florida I'm gonna put a build sheet/special order for a lunar rock Tacoma. Kind of a rant but anyone got any tips or tricks to finding there dream Tacoma?

It seems the only trick is to put a refundable deposit down at numerous dealers and wait.

Knowing someone at the dealership would help. That dealership would still need to have the unit coming in that you are looking for.

I haven't looked on line, but I don't think Toyota built or is building any Lunar Rock TRD Off Road Access Cabs.

Put your name down in the dealers list and tell em to call you when its ther, theyre buying 24/7 and more than likely you wont beat someone whos buying all day. Its gonna cost more but if you really want it.

Toyota does not do build sheets, they don’t build vehicles to custom orders. Google Toyota allocation system to understand it better.

The reason you’re not finding the Lunar Rock is that at every Toyota dealership there’s probably at least one person with a deposit down waiting for one, they are first in line. And there are a thousand people like you out pounding the pavement looking for one. And there aren’t many.

Edit: there are some things you can get custom post-factory but they are limited.

I had three dealerships looking for a truck for me for quite awhile. I had inquired about a Pro to all of them. When one was allocated in January, so I put a deposit down. The ETA kept getting pushed back, so I told myself I'd be fine with a Trail edition (have a Trail edition Tundra currently). I constantly did the build and price thingy on Toyota's website seeing what was close to what I wanted and saw a Lunar rock Trail pop up with some of the add ons I was looking at. I would shoot the VIN's to one of the salesmen I was working with and he would tell me where those trucks were heading. So, I called one dealer 4 hours away that had a Lunar Rock Trail coming to them in 11 days and gave them a deposit. I'm planning on picking it up this Tuesday.

Just keep trying and you should eventually get what you want. I've been wanting to get back into a Tacoma since the early summer and get out of the gas guzzling Tundra. I've also been collecting parts for it since then as well....lol. Gonna be a busy couple of days once I get it home.

I contacted my dealer back in September and put my name down for a LR DCSB OR (no deposit needed in my dealership). Got a call this Jan with an allocation. Taking delivery in the next week or so. No tricks or hacks involved. It is just a matter of having time and patience. And as far as you heading down to FL, it will it extra difficult to get a 4x4 down there. Keep in mind that Lunar Rock is the most sought after color this year.

Go in and talk to a salesman in person, they get lots of phone calls that probably waste their time. Not saying it will do the trick, but it couldn’t hurt. Or just get lucky, that’s what happened to me. A Lunar Rock DCLB Off Road was sitting on the lot so I stopped in and bought it

Yeah I'm going to have a friend come with me. My biggest worry is if i put a deposit ill have to pay a market adjustment later on. i guess i just need to figure out what dealerships in my area do refundable deposits with no market adjustment

Try one of the internet outlets and get a used low mile truck. Best way to get what you want. Carvana or similar.

I was looking for the double cabs anyway. its interesting because if you look at Edmunds for whatever reason the SE Toyota Man. seems like it makes only RWD and not 4x4 Tacoma's

Did you end up paying a market adjustment on that car or were you able to talk it out of the price since you went in person?. I did find two lunar rocks one was $5k MA other was a 2K MA and i just refuse to pay that.

Very few demand 4wd in the south. Very few demand 2wd in the north. It's not dumb, its supply and demand.

They do have a MA on it however, with the tax savings with my trade I'm getting what I paid for my year and a half old tundra with 30k miles on it. So I'm fine with that. Plus once it's paid off, I'll cancel my extended warranty and get that 2k back.
