I’ve been suggesting to my wife I’ll sell my Tacoma and get possibly a new Tundra. My wife informed me my truck isn’t even 10 months old yet!

My wife and daughter went to the local Pick n save grocery store and brought a new truck home for me Saturday afternoon! This might hold me till May!

Was doing some more research on it today. It'll happen! Would be nice for the next Moab trip.

I'll take your 35's when you get 37's

I’ve considered going to the new tundra but I still can’t justify the price tag

Let me preface as usual, My 4runner identifies as a Tacoma. With that out of the way…. I finally ordered my ECGS clamshell bushing for my 4runner!

I usually have this tendency to think of the worst, so my mind just went straight to thinking my cv axle will have scoring, and I’ll be too cheap to get a new one, and that will result in a messed up ECGS bushing a short while later.

So all this negative nancy-ing made me call ecgs and ask if I screw up my bushing because of a bad surface on the CV, can I remove the bushing with bearing removal tool? He said nope! Like, a right away “nope”….no hesitation on his part. So I kinda believe him when he said I’d have to cut the thing out. But basically he said not worry, as typicaly he has not heard of that happening.

Have the bearing replacers among us ever seen any damage to the CV axle surface that rides on the bushing? I’d prefer an answer that is convenient for me, but I suppose Im not opposed to the truth…

I haven't heard of any CV axle shaft damage from a bad bearing, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

I'm going to have to play devil's advocate here though.... If you pull it apart and the axle shaft is scored up to the point you think it will damage the new bushing the shaft should be replaced. Don't toss the old one though that is now the trail spare!

I'm sure it's going to be fine. Order the bushing and move on with life. If you need some help drinking your beer on install day give me a shout, be glad to help.

Thanks, you cut straight to the heart, convenient answers be damned. Of course, if I have to replace one CV, then I have to think if I want to replace both with high angle CV…. Of course that would be to guarantee a right and left spare, to serve the greater good. These CVs work on Tacos right?

I may have too much beer on hand on the install day…. I may have to ask for help.
