This is an 'anything goes' discussions about self defense. Whether it be preparing your home, preparing yourself, actual self defense physically or with guns - doesn't matter.

When calling for 911 - what is better? Landline or Cell ?

I've read that most people recommend using your cell phone because a landline can be cut. However, I've also read that calling 911 from a cell phone creates its own problems.

Cell 911 Calls don't give your exact location to the 911 dispatcher like landlines do. Although, the FCC is working on that.

Aside from that, poor reception, bad call quality, misrouted to wrong dispatcher, system overload, etc.

So, I wouldn't necessarily give up that landline completely, especially for home defense or emergencies. In my own neighborhood, all the utlilities are underground so the chances of having the lines cut are rare. We currently don't have a phone in our bedroom (odd...??) but I think I'll buy a cheapo phone just for emergency sake.

Just an FYI (according to what I've read online) you can get a new/used cell phone without a phone number and without paying for any service - be able to dial 911 for emergencies. Donate your old phones or give them to people who could use them just for emergencies (have them stripped of the numer/service,etc).
