Just checking if anyone has had any negative experience with 10k oil changes. Personally, I feel like 5k is already pushing the limit. And I would normally go with what the dealership recommends. But I’m getting different answer so “save me Tacoma world you’re my only hope”

First hand, I can tell you, there's more issues after 10+ years with the longer intervals. (in my cold weather region)

The Tundra suffers the most from the 10k oil changes. They really react poorly to the 10k intervals and we see more leaks and timing chain tensioner failures.

The 3.5 Tacoma's are fairly reliable but the tarnishing will be far worse with 10k and will lead to earlier wear and failure of parts.

No one I work with does 10k, we all do 5-6k (or 8000kms in our country :p )

I’ve only done oil changes at 10k. Zero issues on any of my vehicles

    1. You are supposed to post these types of questions on Fridays.
    2. If you operate the truck the majority of the time in "Special Operating Conditions" your factory recommended oil change interval is 5,000 miles. If not, your factory re commended oil change interval is 10,000 miles.
    3. The "special Operating Conditions" are:
    a. Driving on dirt or dusty roads.
    b. Using a car top carrier, towing or running heavily loaded.
    c. Repeated trips of less than 5 miles in temperatures below freezing.
    d. Extensive idling or low speed driving, or door to door delivery service.

Send a sample to Blackstone and let them tell you what they find for your specific engine and usage.

If you're using the correct SAE and viscosity, I think you'll be surprised at their findings.

Or you can just continue by 'feel'. Or maybe color. Just don't taste it.

Never seen this sort of chart. Interesting how after 30k miles, it seems to convert to a 5k mile oil change internal. Excluding if "special driving conditions" are your primary driving circumstances, this chart doesn't line up with the factory literature.

    I'll stick with 10k intervals.

You'll notice the free oil changes also end after 30k miles...

Then they ran out of room on the page, and had to jump from 95k to 120k just to loop in one more major service! What about 100, 105, 110, and 115??

Oil brands and oil change intervals are one of the most opinionated and passionate conversations to be had on every car forum.

Pick a brand name oil, OEM filter, and change however often you can routinely manage/afford. 5k if you meet the special operating conditions listed in the manual, 10k if you don't. Engine failures related to oil are very rare when the correct oil spec is used with mfr recommended oci.

There should be one sticky oil thread and all the rest locked and deleted. :deadhorse:

To each his or her own, but I follow the 5,000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first.

The free oil changes are only 10k and 20k.

    5k, 15k & 25k are all sunshine treatments

I guess the implication wasn't clearer.

With 10k and 20k free oil changes, Toyota pays for the oil twice. After that, you pay for the oil every 5k...

Funny enough, my local dealer changed my oil free every 5k under Toyota Care.
