clip's "should've left it stock" build

Found a great truck, was really happy with it but the itch to mod wouldn't go away. So, I've decided to collect all my bad ideas in one thread. Collected list of modifications below, details and pictures to follow.

Truck is a 2015 OR and had only 14k miles when I found it in 2021. A perfect candidate for a long-term daily driver. It couldn't stay stock for long. The plan is to eventually end up with something comfortable and capable for family trips to the outdoors, as well as a little fun on the tougher trails.

It would be really interesting if you would note the costs of each modification and have a running total displayed. Somehow that kind of information is always missing from these build threads.

 

There is a reason many folks either don't list "all" their mods, and certainly the price.

Some folks have significant others that would cut up their credit cards for them if they saw actual numbers. It's safer for them to say they got stuff on sale, trade, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist etc and just make up a price if asked by their SO.

Appreciate the patience, working on a year's backlog of mods and pics. As it came home in March 2021 (note the original tires):

 

Sure... there are all kinds of reasons to keep the information under the table. But inquiring minds want to know.

 

Mod backlog - assorted wheels and tires:
SEMA wheels arrived to replace the dry rotted original ATs



Time for some MTs on the stock wheels. 7.50-16s were a little too skinny.



Went with some 235/85s instead.

 

Mods backlog - lighting and interior:
Added the faux grille and a front camera




Upgraded the speakers and added a charger



One of the best upgrades I've done - better headlights. Tried out some Nokya golden yellow fog light bulbs to see how the color did in bad weather.

Finally getting into the big projects. Bilstein 6112/5160s added with a U-bolt flip and better bump stops. Went up to 255/85 Yokohama Geolandars and managed to get the spare to fit once I adjusted the brackets. The new UCAs required a 1.25" spacer to clear, so all four corners got spaced out until I settle on some alternate wheels. After driving for a few miles, decided to add the 3° axle shims to take care of a slight vibration - had to add new U-bolts as I cut the ones from Wheeler's a little short.

 

Got some additional lighting. Very happy with the selective yellow fogs and amber covers for the KC light bar. Huge thanks to @Mr.PowerTrays for the PowerTray and @memario1214 for supporting TW members at Hotshot.

And a few shots in the snow to show off the different color temperatures. The light quality of the Gravity Pro6 and SS3 max is phenomenal.

C4 sliders prepped for painting this week. All wire brushed and wiped down.

First coat of Rustoleum Marine Coatings Topside primer. Thanks @Grumpy Jesse for the paint recommendation and nice writeup on the install.

Second coat went on smoothly after sanding.



Now to wait for the topcoat.

Thanks! Huge fan of the pizza cutters and they've done great from sand to mud to rock when aired down to about 20 psi.

 

First coat of color on tonight, decided to touch up the Relentless bumper as it had a few chips and scuffs. Decided to try the anti-slip additive on the step treads as well. Sanding and second coat to finish up, then to install it all.

 

Final coat on, now to wait the 3-4 days to cure prior to install. Anti-slip additive came out great on the step plates too.

 

Sliders finally mounted after a week of painting. Now to get the winch bumper on.

 

Appreciate the comprehensive list. I also did the headlight upgrade with HS harness. I tried the fog light upgrade with the Diode Dynamics SS3 Max; but, I was disappointed to learn that it was only secured by one screw. (Had I researched it more, I could’ve avoided having to return the product.). It was too easy to push the fog light loose (like if I was washing the truck) with only the one screw being used. DD should’ve been more transparent about the install for 2nd gen Tacomas; but, to their credit, their product is a solid product, functions well, and their customer service is great too. My question is, how did you secure your fog lights with only one screw without it being easily jarred loose or shifted?
