Hi all Canadians, well get ready to pay more for your new truck and SUV. Mr Trudeau just announced that there will a tax on all new truck and suv. They will range from 1,000.00 on small pick ups, suv and up to 4000.00 on bigger trucks like F150, Rams etc etc.In other words the bigger the truck the bigger the tax.

Effing rights, I don't mind a "luxury" tax on big guzzling SUV's but a tax on pick-up trucks will be a tax on the working class..
Glad I got my 4Runner before this.
I'll probably get dinged on my Tacoma if it ever arrives.

That depends on the deal you have with the dealer. Did you agree to a price with taxes when you ordered your new Taco if so then you don't have to worry about it. Still a dirty way to get more of our tax money.

Omf. I already pay 15% tax in New Brunswick. Is this new tax on top of that!? Probably add the $1000 on, then charge sales tax on that too.

Knowing our money hungry Government they will charge 1000.00 on the price of the taco then tax it on top after. Whatever way they can make more money is what they will use.

Of what I read B.C. and Alberta will be hit the hardest as their prices are quite higher than ours.

Tacomas go for MSRP here. Local dealer has a $400 admin fee but that’s it.
    Nothing to stress about.
Nothing to panic over, it’s not for a couple years if ever. May not happen at all.

Honestly enforcing federal emission standards would go further than taxing every large vehicle.

It doesn't affect me directly but I feel its short sighted.

Keep on thinking like that. When Trudeau mentions any kind of tax it happens whether you like it or not it is reality. He mentioned carbon tax and it happened so get ready for it. Just saying

Probably will not affect me as I already bought my taco and not planning on buying another one in the future.

It's news believe it or not.
Look guys I just wanted to mention this for those who did not know about it. Did not want to start a negative result from it. You take it or you don't

I haven't seen anything about it except an opinion piece (not news) in the Sun. The reality is that the bill in question has already existed since 2007 and applies to certain vehicles that get worse than 13L/100km. The "truck tax" would simply add vehicles that qualify to that list. And it's just a recommendation for emissions reduction by 2030. The goal isn't to make everyone pay more, it's to get automakers to make more efficient vehicles. Which most people probably agree with. It also doesn't apply to used vehicles and the Tacoma, specifically, will likely be a hybrid or completely EV in the next few years anyway and won't even apply here. The tax is meant for things like an f350. The tundra would have a $2000 tax at the moment. People are already paying $2-5000 dealer markup into their pocket for no reason so what's the difference? There's a whole lot of nothing here.

The green levy being referred to already affects SUVs. In 2007 the Conservative government under prime minister Stephen Harper introduced what they called a "green levy for gas guzzlers" as part of a number of offerings for "ensuring a cleaner, healthier environment."
In their 2007 budget, the Conservatives predicted the levy would bring in $215 million in the first two years but has not come anywhere close to that, averaging about $15 million a year in revenues. Over 14 years, the total revenue from the green levy is $220 million, including less than $4 million in 2020-21.

It did not apply to pickups in 2007, and has not for the 15 years it has existed.

Guilbeault said the Liberals are not proposing to extend it to trucks regardless of the Conservative accusations.

    so nothing to panic over.
