So I just replaced the CV axles and wheel hubs on my truck after doing so I could not get my end caps to go on its like they were not deep enough as they seem to be hitting against the cv that sticks out past the nut.
Has anyone else had this issue and do they make replacement covers to compensate for the extra clearance needed to seat properly?

    Thanks for any feedback

if you replaced with oem CVs, they shouldn't be sticking out. If you are talking about the dust cap, its possible that it isnt hitting the end of the CV and instead its just the dust cap itself. that thing is a super snug fit, when I did my bearings after an hour or so of trying to get that thing in i resorted to just bending it in the tiniest bit on one end, not so much that it breaks the seal, but so that it is sort of slanted into the inside of the hub. I hit the other side in with a mallet, and then that slant let me get that side in without the other popping back out.

I ordered a replacement set from rockauto I believe GSP makes them but seems there is a slight difference where the dust cap just is not deep enough by oh say 20 or 30 thousandths which makes the dust cap not seat but over all it doesn't look any longer that the original.
It just enough difference to where it won't seat.

It seats but will teater off to one side or the other when you try to tap it fully down.

Take a piece of tape and place it in the center of the cap. Then try it again. Pull the cap off and see if the axle is hitting. You’ll see marks on the tape.

You can even use a dab grease on the axle end to achieve the same results. The grease will transfer to the cap if it is hitting.

yeah so that way it teeters to the other side is the same problem that I had, it is just because it is such a snug fit (in theory) thats what I was saying about how i pushed one edge in, so that i could get it started a little easier, but maintain the perfect seal.. I'm welding some gussets on to my spindle later today, so i have to take the bearing out and whatnot. I can take a picture of what I did to get it in. maybe not the best advice, but it is what I resorted to. just make sure you aren't hitting it with the hammer right in the middle as you can bend that in fairly easily. if you do then it will contact your CV.

I just left them off and coated throughly with a corrosion preventative. Yea I can see on the cap where it's hitting and just thought maybe someone else has found an alternate cap that works its only at most a couple mils needed to clear it.

If its sticking out that much I'd take some beer and a hack saw to the end of the cv axle.

    Better to have it sealed.

Sucks, I'd see if rock auto can at least give you a coupon for your troubles.

Don’t feel bad man. I mangled mine up the first time I took it off. A screw driver is not the right tool to pry it out with.

I had to to do some reworking to get mine to fit. It was actually a hit loose by the time I got done with it. I used some RTV around the edge. “just in case” . So far, so good.

I now use a wood chisel. It works perfectly. The sharp blade gets in between the cap and hub face nicely.
