It was a tad light for what we were doing but it worked. Wheel bearing seals were a weak point. We found a couple of 3 seat/row of seats from an airplane and had them in the bed for moving the crew from town to camp or we removed them and could load 10 drums of diesel (I could carry 3 drums diesel and 2x100lb propane bottles in my Hilux). Dry season was a 3.5hr 70 mile trip from town to camp in the Hilux, 5hrs in the Unimog. Rainy season it just depended on how many times you had to winch out of a mudhole. 11+ hrs was my longest trip.

Today I did the 50K service. Oil and filter, check fluids, etc. I also replaced my wiper blades. Went ahead and removed the wiper arms and the cowling to clean underneath it and around the cabin air intake. It was pretty nasty with nearly three years of gunk getting down in there. The cowling is not hard to remove, but be advised it's super easy to break the clips holding it under the windshield. I snapped a couple with not a lot of force trying to get it out.

That’s some serious mud there. I try to avoid those kind of conditions but I understand when it comes to work you gotta do what you gotta do. New Year’s Eve I purposely went out in some thick slippery stuff for fun; I was lucky to make back to the paved road. It was nighttime and there were a couple of Highway Patrolman parked where the paved road ends. Don’t think they would’ve been much help if I would’ve got stuck (need to get a front bumper and winch). My arms were tired by the time I got back to the pavement and one of the patrolman said I have the right truck for it. I agree but it was honestly a but puckered ride! :D That camp looks pretty cool.

Lol I know it’s kind of ironic. That NC plate is a replica of the one seen on The Andy Griffith Show. My favorite show ever. It’s funny when people occasionally ask me about it, since it looks nothing like the current NC tags haha.
