Hey folks. New here. Lurked for a while and have seen some awesome things take place on here.

Anyway, I officially have the white screen of death and it’s terrible financial timing. I’ve checked eBay hoping for a factory unit that someone pulled for an upgrade, but I just have a hard time trusting that I won’t get their white screen of death lol.

Has there ever been a fix discussed?

By chance, does anyone have one they are willing to sell?

Thanks everybody. This place is awesome

Unfortunately, the fix involves pulling out the H/U, complete disassembly, resolderkng broken joints in the main I/C board and while you’re in there, the solder joints on the amp chip as well as cleaning and putting new thermal paste on it, then reassembly, remembering where every screw and ribbon cable went. In other words, ditch it.

I understand budget constraints, I’m there right now. $50-$100 a month until you have enough for a new aftermarket unit is probably the best route. You may score a cheap one on here, check the buy/sell/trade section further down in the forums.

    Good luck!

Cheapest option is to find a working unit in a junkyard/parts pull place. That way you could try to repair (or send for repair) your old one.

Is there a common theme in what people are replacing them with instead of factory units?

I usually recommend Crutchfield. You can narrow down what to get by features you want. Install accessories are usually included, as well as instructions on what wires go where.

while i agree crutchfield is a great one-stop-shop, i disagree that they are the most financially-savvy option. the extra cost goes into their thorough documentation, and on-call staff to deal with problems. if one wants to save money, personal research can go a long ways. it's how i got started into car audio. at the time, couldn't afford the name-brand new stuff, or crutchfields extra support cost, so did some digging, figured out what parts i needed, and ordered from shops that just sold the raw parts without the support system.

though sometimes you can use the crutchfield order page to figure out what one needs for a specific vehicle and order it from other sources for a discount!
