What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Today I gave the truck a toe alignment. I also mounted the in cab winch rocker switch with a sturdier version that I found off Amazon. My original cut wasn’t the best so this holds the switch better.






My macs spare tire strap came in so I mounted the spare in the bed with that. Still some adjusting to do to get it even but happy with how sturdy it holds it. The quality of these straps are beyond what I expected.

I tried mounting mine behind the cab with two bed cleats but somehow they loosened…

edit: I see now right part is hooked to a d ring by the stiffener
I also have a bunch of d rings, maybe 6; sprinter van d ring mod and OEM bad mat with hole cutouts

 

I appreciate it. I added some tie down points for the other sides to attach to. I used a regular strap and the wheel moved around too much for my liking. With it set up like this there is 0 movement.

 

Another busy day. Started by reinstalling the mudflaps after giving them another coat of paint yesterday. Then I installed a power tailgate pop & lock.





That reminds me, gotta get an exhaust tip at some point.

 

Next I rebadged the bed sides and tailgate since I didn’t like the naked look the truck came with (I guess they debadged when repainting it and left them off). Was gonna use OEM decals and even ordered a pair (or so I thought), but was surprised when I discovered there was only one in the package. Decided to cut my losses and picked up a matte black TRD OR decal pair on eBay for a quarter of what I paid for one OEM decal. They go well with the matte black emblem overlays I also installed today.

 

Finally I did a test fitting of my RPT1s before my install appointment tomorrow. I noticed on Saturday that the wheels have a 110.5 bore instead of the advertised 108.5 so the hub centric rings I bought wouldn’t work. I was able to find a set of 106/110 rings on Amazon with next day delivery, and got them just after lunch today. However, when I tested them in the wheels they hit a lip on the bore (it steps down in diameter to 109-ish at a depth of 8.7 mm and the rings are 10 mm thick), so they didn’t sit flush. I ended up filing down the outer edge of the rings until they fit.

 

This is exactly what I want to do to mine. It is just lazy on the part of Toyota to do pop-rivets. Plus, I also plan to remove the bed and clean & paint the frame. Riv-nuts will make it easy to do so.

 

how come you went with their twisted hook option vs. flat?
