Has anyone ever had their tailgate stolen from their Tacoma before? Ive had my tailgate stolen off a f350 ten years ago and those dudes had it off in about 2 mins. I’m not sure if the Tacoma tailgate detaches easily or not. I’m trying to remember to lock it every time I leave it unattended for awhile-I’m sure they are expensive….also is there anything else on the truck that gets easily lifted?

Its just as easy to remove our talegates. I have a lock on the hinge of mine so you need a key to remove it.

Just search tacoma tailgate lock and you'll find a few option.

At least the 3rd gen is very easy..2016 to 2022..a stainless steel hose clamp on the hinge, that takes time to remove seems to be the fix..some even use heat shirk to protect the paint..can't say for sure about other years..There is several post here and some vids on YouTube about it..

Doesn’t just keeping the tailgate locked prevent the theft?

Yes, but you have to remember to lock it every time. With a hinge lock you put it on and never forget because it never comes off.

Yup. Keep mine locked all the time. If I unlock it, I re lock it. But for those who transport more and frequently, it I'm sure is much more of a hassle. Either manually or w/out the electronic lock and unlock.

I go out every night for a smoke before bed, it's for my health, and I check my wife's car doors and my doors and tailgate.

I keep it locked at all times... otherwise the fking junkies will rumble for loose change and whatnot ..

Yep, I have a 2018 so no power locks for me. But im in and out of the tailgate several times a day with my kayak. Plus many times I cant even put the tailgate up if there is a kayak in the bed, the kayak is locked to the truck, but someone could easy just pull the tailgate off leaving the kayak in there.

Thats the one I have, I put it on 2 years ago and never once have I had to take it off.

OEM Tailgate lock is around $150 shipped to you and if you follow a YouTube installation video it makes it pretty simple. I got a truck topper and sliced that electric lock into my tailgate lock and it’s the best modification I’ve made so far. Never had to worry about remembering to lock the bed area and unlocks with the passenger door double tap on the key fob.

I used a hose clamp and some zip ties here to slow them down, and will prob get something better where the clamp is used

The keyed hose clamps were the first mod I added. There are several links but a keyed hose clamp was the easiest and least expensive solution. Live and learn.
