Don’t have any experience with it but it looks like an awesome heavy duty off road travel trailer. Very impressive. My hesitation would be price. Looks like when you get all the bells and whistles you want that you’re probably looking at $40,000 or so out the door with tax and license. Seems like a lot of $$$ for a trailer that will probably be used a dozen or so times a year for off road. (It’s not really practical for anything but off road). Don’t misunderstand me, I’d love to have a trailer like that, just seems like a lot of money. But if it’s what you want and you have the bucks, go for it.

I should have prefaced the reasoning. My girl friend and I are planning to move to Alaska next spring and possible hitting the road this fall. We plan to live out of the trailer for a minimum of 3 months if not much much longer. She works remote and will never have to go back into the office. I am planning on starting work for the forest service next year once we get established in a spot. We camp a lot and love being outside more then in, we also don't need much space so we are looking at the smallest space we can sleep and hang out in when the weather is really bad. We are also most comfortable when away from other people and boondocking. It is expensive but it will be used more then a dozen times a year. We have looked into bigger and way less expensive models but we are cautious of a lot of things, and have heard horror stories about some of the cheaper mass built trailers. I have also had some bad experiences with them also. We also know we will be taking on mainly forest roads and possible up to Tuktoyaktuk even so we need something that wont rattle apart on washboard roads and wont rot in wet climates. We will be financing it and calling it rent. Which means we will be saving a lot.

I’ve been to Alaska several times. A beautiful awesome place. Just a couple pieces of advice. As far as living outdoors in your off road trailer , depending on where in Alaska you are you can do that maybe May through September. Before or after those months your looking at seriously bad weather, rain, snow, wind, cold… You want a house or permanent dwelling the other times of the year. The elements are too bad to live in a small travel trailer. Also from May through July in many parts of Alaska is mosquito season. I know there are a lot of mosquitoes in your part of the country but you ain’t seen nothing until you see the clouds of mosquitoes in Alaska. It’s miserable.
I could go on and on but I’ll just say one more thing. Bears!!! There’s lots of them and the grizzly and brown bears are unpredictable and aggressive. You absolutely need protection. I suggest 2 forms of protection. The first is bear spray. It works and is very very effective. The second is a short barreled 12 gauge shotgun loaded with a combination buckshot and slugs. Forget a handgun like a 44 mag. A bear is faster than you can imagine. Trying to stop a charging bear with a handgun in the 2 to 3 seconds you’ll have before it’s on you is close to impossible. So bear spray and 12 gauge slugs and buckshot.
Anyway I’m envious of you and your girlfriend. I’d love to spend a few months in the backcountry in Alaska. Good fortune to you.

It is legit. Looks like a capable trailer and I like the price. Looking through the photo gallery the only thing that bothers me is the tiny propane canister. I like having a 20 lb, standard tank for my propex heater, the ecotemp water heater, and my grill.

If you cook out a lot and are in the mountains in early spring / late fall or 4 season camp, a smaller canister may limit when and where you go or how long you can stay out. Worth considering. I like the rig though and it seems priced very competitively.

Edit: my rig is below. You will find most trailers in our class (true off road trailers) will be very similar in amenities and only differ in layout and minor options. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions - I bought the trailer a few months ago and are transitioning to living out of it full time. I just installed a mobile router and parsec husky 7 pro antenna so I have been through the fun of high bandwidth cellular plans and hardware.

Thank you. and thank you for the input. We are still working everything out, we are in the begging of the planning for it. She lived up there for 4 years in her mid 20s so she knows Anchorage decent but she never got to explore like we do now so she wants to go back. We will probably set up somewhere outside of Anchorage for a while and move when we need to and take the truck and RTT out of weekend trips. We will only be in Alaska for the Summer months. Maybe May threw Aug/Sept. We know living outside with the mosquitos might be rough at times but we deal with a good amount here in MN. I know they are nothing compared to up there but we have an enclosed awning room and we will be packing a lot of bug spray. As far as bears goes, yes I am planning on bringing at least 1 of my shotguns incase one gets to curious. We always have bear spray on us whenever we are in an area we know they could be. Our 2 cans just expired this year so I do need to reup on those.

That looks awesome as well! We might need to talk more if you're in the process of doing what we plan on doing. Yes I do worry about the 11lb propane tank. They have the option for a second holder so 22 total. We also have a 5lb we keep in the truck and if all else fails we plan on picking up a 20 and strapping it to the truck or roof rack. Also need to look into take blankets for when the temps get to cold to keep the propane from freezing. My gf has been the one looking into all the connectivity stuff so I will have to talk to her about it but we could always use more input on it. What carrier do you have?

I assume you have checked out Bean trailers? I have been thru 4 TD now and my trailer prior to the Bean was very similar to this, a Vintage Trailer Works XTR. I liked it but these types are small for some of what you are talking about with living in. The Bean is by far the most room I have seen for a smaller footprint.

@Northbound_Taco FWIW, the Black Bean was my #1 but the waiting list we a no-go for me and B&B RV Inc. in Denver had 2 XOCs in inventory for me to choose from. The Beans are very well thought out. x2 on @RevelTaco 's recommendation. Bean puts a lot of thought into how people will spend time in their tear drops.

Yes that is also one of the options we are looking at as well. US made and great features, Would love a meaner bean if we could get one. I am in contact with Off grid right now just asking questions and I'm waiting to hear back from Bean. I am also looking into the XOC more now too. SO thanks for putting more options out there for me lol. Good thing we have a half a year or so to decide.

A Hiker Trailer EOR 5x9 starts at $13,595.

I've yet to see one go for more than $36,000. Fully loaded.
