That would work but a lot of work to deal with for most people every time they park at home. Also when you're home most people like to feel like they and their property is safe and aren't likely to pull and put back a fuse each time forever.

I didn't think the Club was still a thing. Has anything changed on these devices since the '90's when it was found the locks can be frozen enough to make brittle and damaged with a hammer?

IMHO, easiest deterent is a simple ground kill switch. If you want to to go the extra step, it can be wired with a relay to automatically trigger when you turn off the vehicle, so you don't forget to switch it. You'd simply have to remember to hit the switch before startup.

The reality is thieves have many ways to get your vehicle. They'll even drag onto a flatbed, and drive off in daylight. No one really pays attention in that situation since it looks like the vehicle is being repossessed, and most are not willing to get involved when they see this happening.

I don't worry about my truck. I lock things up, have a kill switch, and hope if it gets stolen, it doesn't return (having it returned can have me going through a lot more headaches).

I had a 2000 SI Civic aka the most stolen care in america at one point. I bought it as a theft recovery salvaged title, then it got stolen from me (they got pulled over and all got caught.) I wired a kill switch in the trunk for the fuel pump. It was as simple as splicing the power wire for the fuel switch. It was ghetto but it worked. I was actually lazy so i left the switch in the trunk and i had to go to the trunk to turn the car on every time. siggghhh

Are you freaking kidding me? I had no idea.... So no concept of stand your ground at all. So if someone breaks in your house and you wake up as they enter you room can you legally shoot them or are you just supposed to get robbed, beaten, killed, raped or whatever?

I had a couple of vehicles back in the day that had the Chapman lock if anyone else recalls those. Engine would crank but not start, not sure if it killed the spark or fuel though. I have to think it's possible today still since I had both carbureted and fuel injected vehicles with them.

Haven't looked yet under my dash, but can the OBD2 connector be dismounted from under the dash, and simply zip tied up higher under the dash where it cannot be easily seen? It's not like the OBD2 is used all of the time.

its just another layer. Why make it just that much easier for them ? Fvck them. If they’re going to take it again, they’re going to work for it. I also park another vehicle behind it every night. Our Tacomas also make it possible to put the club on backwards which only leaves cutting the wheel = more time on site and noise and obviously stolen vehicle DA3914D1-880C-4C8F-9C1D-F1647F37F8CB.jpg

OP's post got me off my big horse butt to research theft and theft deterrents. - thanks! It seems like the best approach is a "layered" one in which multiple devices are used. His posting prompted me to pick up a Club. If you mount the Club on the top half of the wheel ***like Da Voke above me ***** with the lock cylinder facing the dash, it is a definite PITA to a thief and cutting the wheel in one place won't help remove it.

My other layers are a Chipped Key (one benefit of the 6-MT), and also thinking of a cheap battery powered motion alarm either ear-splitting or remote. For under $100, one can at least make it more difficult for thieves to rip us off.

It seems to me like it wouldn’t be too hard to 3d print a cover for the port with a proximity circuit ( resistance based so even if it momentarily varied or was cut or jumpered, it would trigger). It could be connected to a microcontroller and an alarm plus wifi connected to the home to trigger lights and a loud alarm.

I hope to add to this discussion for education , as someone mentioned if they want your car, they will get your car, we can only make it harder.

A few things I have noticed over the years on vehicle theft. A flatbed can drag away a car in minutes, not the most stealth way, but when time is a factor it's been done.

A $20 purchase on the internet, will buy a you a GPS jammer, jams any of that GPS tracking crap, they work real good also. It simply plugs into a 12volt outlet and you can't track the vehicle, it can also be used to jam 4g signals.

If vehicles were in for any service or such, it's very easy for a thief to make a copy of any key/fob.

Having the VIN in plain site makes it almost as easy to duplicate a key/fob

The Faraday pouches are effective, the technology for relaying the fob is very interesting.

I have cameras also, but then again, if the faces are covered they are useless.

Especially in trucks with a slider rear window, that is open target for breaking into a truck, so simple to pry that open, and it doesn't trigger any dome light or switch.

    Thieves suck!
