    Hello. I have 2021 tacoma 4x4 off-road with bad engine ( part # 19000-0P411). Can I use engine from 2016 and up ? Should it be off-road only ? it's 3.5 but parts # are different compare with 2017 or 2018 etc.

I called couple Toyota dealerships , they said they don't know.

So it's a salvage/total loss vehicle you're going to fix?

Yes, according to the Hollander Interchange, all 2016-2021 engines are the same...only difference is whether it has a vacuum pump (smog pump) or not.

I'd guess that engine sucked in water.

The core engine (block/heads/etc.) is going to be the same. However, there will be subtle differences between the years in production improvements, etc. which will not affect your install. What will be important (if your truck got wet) is to make sure you use the correct ECU, etc. I would carefully assess your truck if it was water damaged as there are LOTS of electronics that may need swapping out as well.

Motor itself is certainly the same, if there were differences it would be with how the accessories are mounted or maybe with the wiring harness, but these shouldn't matter as you can just use the accessories and harness from the truck you are fixing.

Yes that is correct. The long block is the same. CoPart rebuilders are always a crapshoot. In the salvage industry, we always say “it was driving fine to the scene of the accident” or in your case, until the block was windowed.
